CUSTOM Emisar D18 builds are AVAILABLE!

Can you post some pictures of beamshots and close-ups when you receive it? What did you end up choosing for the layout of the 3 tint mix?

Oof.

That isn’t going to look all that good.

If only there was an SST-20 5000k 95CRI.

Would make things easier.

there is simply almost none room to make an Aux board, the conventional way placing on the MCPCB

the only option I would see would be a hack replacing the front panel PCB
simply have it with holes and let the LEDs shine through them, basically all parts are on te back, but diodes flipped so the emitters shine through the holes

The inner ring of emitters appear to be the 6500K & 3000K, arranged alternately.
The outer ring of emitters appear to be the 5000K & 4000K, arranged in pairs alternately.

The sample here appears to be arranged slightly differently:

inner ring is similar: 6500K & 3000K alternate
outer ring is now alternate 5000K & 4000K (not in pairs)

I will also try to make a front cover PCB with aux LEDs integrated shining through the board

I sent this pm to Hank:

I found that you can do D18 custom builds.

Can you: 1. do one with Nichia 219b’s? or: build one up that would be the equivalent tint/cri of the 219b 4000k? (the slightly rosy tint)

I already have one with the sst-20’s and I absolutely love it but it is kinda yellow.

We’ll see. Someone had a d18 on bst with 219B’s that I missed and I’m sick at heart…

You can always buy the d-18, and send it to a modder in the states, I know of one that has 219b’s and has done work for me before.

I had Hank put (6x)sst-20 6500k and (12x)sst-20 3000k and I love it!

Would E21As work in the D18?

Nope.

The D18 MCPCB and driver are all wrong for E21A, and I’m not sure if the optics are compatible.

So… at minimum, it would require building a new driver and new MCPCB and greatly reducing the maximum power level.

The D18 uses the LEDil LISA optics. The manufacturer lists here that the LISA II is compatible with the E17A, and it has a 82% percent optical efficiency. The LISA III is shown here as being compatible with the Optisolis and the somewhat large 219F.

I have a custom Emisar D18 with deep red 660nm SST-20-DR-B120-V660 emitters. It is very bright on turbo.

One of my D18s was made with W1 Reds. It is ridiculous on turbo. When you start low and ramp up it goes from, yep that is really red, starting to get brighter, to so bright the white ceiling reflection hurts your eyes when you look away. I have no real use for the light, but it is still one of the coolest lights I own. It would be interesting to contrast the w1 and the sst20 version.

If you’re mixing tints… The farther apart the two tints, the less green and more pink the result will be.

So… 4000K + 5000K is only slightly less green than 4500K. But 2700K + 6500K is significantly less green. This is because the color space is curved, but the tint mix follows a straight line. For example, here’s how it looks with 3000K + 5000K:

Is it possible to order D18 with Samsung LH351D 5000k or Cree XPL-HI 5000K/4000k?

In the first post, it mentions that it’s possible to ask Hank (owner of Intl-Outdoor) for custom builds, I suppose Hank may oblige if requested (if he has the part, and it’s possible for the light).

LH351D is a bigger domed LED than SST20, so (just my guess), there may be issues with the optic fitting these LEDs), unlike the XPL-Hi version which are domeless… But best to ask Hank about them…

Has anyone thought of getting a D18 with all Osram green emitters? I just got a KR4 with the green Osram and I love it

I’ve wondered about this before but never asked Hank himself when I don’t have the funds to commit to it. I have an EDC18 with 4000K 219C’s and adore them. I’ve wondered ever since whether it would be possible for Hank to put those LED’s in a D18? Or could I achieve a similar sort of slightly rosy 4000K tint with an SST-20 mix?

I was carrying my D18 last night with a mix of 2700 and 4000’s. Beautiful beam

Man I’m aching to buy another Hank light and don’t know what to order

Oh that does sound nice. I’d mainly be after the slight rosy tint that those particular 219C’s offer. Although after reading quite a few D18 threads, I think an SST-20 mix might be more practical

Ya I love it. I think it was an extra $10 or something to get him to do that. It makes this gorgeous, powerful soft yellow beam reminiscent of an old incandescent flashlight

I’d really love to have a E21A 2000K D18 but Hank said that isn’t possible
