[Review] Convoy S12 - the best Convoy's flashlight?

How does the LVP work? Does it shut down or just give you a single “blip”? If it’s a single “blip” does it repeat? I’m always afraid I’ll miss those blips.

Unsure about every mode, but I had it on mode 3 (30% I think?) a few nights ago; it flashes once every 5 seconds or so. At least that’s what it felt like

Confirmed, on every mode it flashes once every 5s for some time, then it shuts down. So even if you somehow miss that annoying blinks, don’t worry - it will turn off anyway. At…2.9V? Or something like that.

It’s too bad all the reviews of ultra-warm lights have usage pics from urban/forest areas. The 2700k s12 is my new favorite non-headlamp light for rocky/sandy desert and canyon hiking.

I don’t have 2700K version. But canyon… You may see some light canyons in my future thrower reviews

Dude, am I the only one who see there added led option on Convoy S12:

LH351D 5000K
LH351D 5700K

WOW! Amazing…

Ordered this with LH351D 5000K some ten days ago. Hope it’ll be good.

You’re not, I have already ordered it

I will update you with my experiences

I did swapped last week 219C with 351D 5000K and i gotta say that i got pronounced circled hotspot.

Tiny as hell and almost the same intensity spill where used to be three petels from three reflectors.

Wasn’t impressed so i swapped back 219C.

Can’t tell if it’s just my crapy swap or smaller dome emitters are better in these tiny redlectors...

Curiois what others will say ••••••• :~}

Do you have any beamshots?
Now I’m a bit less excited to get my S12…

I don’t have any photo of it. That’s my problem, never document anything i do :(

You are right. S12 works good only with small eliter as SST20.

I’ve just got my S12 with LH351Ds 5000k. I have to say that I really like the light. The hotspot is not that tight (for me), just a little smaller than that of Wurkkos Wk30, which really has a big hotspot. Maybe it is just me that feel the hotspot is not that pronounced. The beam is super floody, perhaps the floodiest of every light that I have owned. The tint is quite low in CCTs. I have 2 other flashlights that adopt the LH351D 5000k and this S12 is the warmest.

The only complaint is as I have opted for a 12-modes, if the light is set in other modes but not the first mode, sometimes the light will automatically change back to the first mode.

Is it hi cri?

This can be the reason:

It’s from the instruction for the biscotti (12-modes) driver.

I personally feel like it is hi CRI but I’m not sure. I have 4 lights and 3 of them use LH351D and the other uses SST20 4000k, which is advertised as 95 CRI. I feel like the tint of this light is a bit warmer (more pleasant to my eyes) than other LH351D-adopted lights.

As for the accidental mode changing, I think what you suspect might be the case. I’ve tried to click the button more carefully and it hasn’t happened ever since.

Just did a real runtime test on 0.3% mode. It’s something that is hard to extrapolate from current measurements because the current is so low. And it’s annoying to test with a 5Ah cell because of the run duration. Anyway, it started its low battery flash this afternoon and it’s been running since the 22nd.

Runtime: 3 weeks, 4 days
LED: 2700k
Cell: Samsung 50e - I see between 4850 and 4950 mAh from these with low loads.

I have no complaints considering how practical three moonlight level high-cri emitters are. This really is a no-frills workhorse light.

where did you find a 12 mode? all i’ve seen is 4 mode only.

i was contemplating fixing my S2+ (SST20 4K) broken driver, and getting a lens to make it more floody for up close work.
i’m now considering putting the cash toward an S12. i’m liking the capacity of the 21700. if clear anodized with QLITE driver was an option, i’d nab one.

what is the driver size on these BTW?

cheers

[edit] great review BTW!

Convoy Flashlight Store on Aliexpress has the 12 Mode models.

ah, found it. thanks :+1:

If you’re ok with the S12 size, definitely go for it. For flood beam, Nichia option should suit you, or you can get LH351D option for high CRI and neutral tint, it gives nearly 2000lm as well.
Compare those 3:
