"Petition" to persuade Emisar (Hank Wang) to make a larger version of D18

I wouldn’t mind a D18v2 but I don’t know if I would want an even larger light.

I’ve asked a couple times, in different threads, if there were any plans for a D18v2 but I’ve never been able to get a definitive answer…. I don’t think the D18 really needs more cells - I like that the D18 is pretty compact for its huge output. I’d personally like to see USB-C charging, aux LED’s, some new anodized colors, and maybe an updated constant current driver - I’d order one with these features, personally. I’ve only held off on the D18 to this point because I was sure that as soon as I order one, the V2 will be announced after mine ships - who knows, maybe one isn’t in the works. I think I’d order one with SST-20 2700k and 5000k tint mix?

Announcing plans for D18V2 before it is ready could affect sales of D18 or his other flashlights, or give other flashlight manufacturers time to make a similar product. It is not surprising you wouldn’t be able to get an answer.

I think the next big opportunity is small EDC flashlights with Anduril that support both 10440/AAA or both 14500/AA batteries. I hope Hank is working on one or more flashlights like this.

Just buy the GT4

I get what you mean, but just a vague, unspecific “we may make a D18V2 eventually” or “no plans at this time” would be great, as I’m pretty sure Hank has hinted at new lights before they’re announced in the past.

Totally agree about a 14500 Anduril light. If you check through that Sofirn Anduril 14500 thread, apparently they were having some challenges getting Anduril to work on a driver small enough for 14500. I’m somewhat doubtful a dual power driver could run Anduril off of a 1.2v AA - 14500 only would be fine by me, but dual power would be even better. 10440, I wouldn’t hold my breath - if they’re struggling to build a ~15mm driver that can run Anduril, its not gonna get done on a 10mm AAA sized driver imo.

I’d like a D18 with 21700 cells and RGB aux LEDs

What you’re asking for is something different from a D18.

The actual D18 is already over powered for it’s size, so more lumens would just be unpractical and useless - unless you want to have a portable heater…

I’d love to see a D18V2 with aux leds and usb charging though.

The Haikelite HK04 XHP50.2 is pretty badass. But it only does 15,000 lumens…

Go big or go home. Look no further, pure brass Haikelite MT03 is still available.

It weighs 1450 grams. That is a massive upgrade from the Emisar D18! (pun intended)
21k lumens! It can probably hold turbo for more than a minute.

I’d buy anything from Hank

Where would we end up with 3 x 21700? Just increased runtimes?

So I decided to buy the D18 with custom XPL HI emitter settup:

3 X 2850K
6 x 4000K
6 x 5000K
3 x 6500K

This should give ne better tint than sst20 5000K and better/higher lumen output than sst20 4000K.

If Hank comes out with a D18v2 I’m gonna be so pissed  (just kidding).

But seriously, D18v2 could have a bit beafier head with more heat dissipation options and either 3X21700 or 4X18650. That alone should make higher output possible.

Also D18v2 should have more emitter options. Like XHP 70.2 high CRI

XHP70.2 is meaningless even at the highest offered CRI due to huge tint-shift in beam. That emitter is anything but quality light source, unless someone skilled enough dedome each one installed.

Speaking of high CRI, if someone could make a flashlight with 12, 18 (or even more, e.g. 36) pieces of E21A, that could be really something.

It doesn’t seem true for the whole XHP70.2 series. zieloczek100 made a review of the EAGTAC TX3G Pro using a Cree XHP-70.2 in a small SMO reflector and the beam doesn’t look as bad as expected. It looks pretty good.

A few of his pictures :

Field shots, camera settings ISO-200, f / 2, 1s, white balance – Fluorescent H
EAGTAC TX3G Pro – TURBO

Emisar D4 – TURBO

Emisar D4 – TURBO

My FW21 Pro actually looks decent. Greenish yellow corona but apart from that it’s not too bad. I think I don’t notice it much due to the floody beam. With the EC01 and SP33 it was more annoying.

Can I add to the Petition a 1/4”–20 UNC tripod thread on any future versions of the D18.

I love my D18 vn 18 x W2. I would love to have the next bigger thing in this department. I do not have anything against the lights that other people like that I am not excited about. It seems that some people are against the lights that I am excited about, for all of the same old reasons that have been repeated 47 trillion times. I like maximum thrust to weight ratio. Added plus is ability to access normal modes in both pocket rockets and shoulder fired rockets.

Please count me in as petitioning Hank Wang to make a larger version of the beloved D18.

My current favs: Nitecore TM9K, Astrolux EC03, Imalent MS03, Lumintop FW21Pro, Nitewatch NSX53, Emisar D4V2 W2, Lumintop FW4a W2, Noctigon KR1 vn 90.2, Mateminco MT07 vn W2, Acebeam X45, Imalent MS18, Acebeam X65, Imalent R90TS, Acebeam K75 and Astrolux MF05.

2 years ago Matt Smith modded a BLF GT with a COB LED.

I wonder if we will see more flashlights with a COB LED in the near future. If a decent driver was available, maybe it could be used to get more (floody) lumens and much better efficiency from a D18-sized host. Better efficiency would mean less heat and longer battery life, which could make a bigger difference than upgrading from a 14k lumen turbo to (for example) 25k lumen turbo.

I don’t actually know much about COB, maybe the technology isn’t there yet.

Email Hank, he will build you a 16 emitter beast like this (E21A): https://www.reddit.com/r/flashlight/comments/i0u34v/custom_brass_d4v2_mule_with_2200k_emitters_and_a/

It really doesn’t have an efficiency or price advantage over many small LEDs.

I’ll take a d18, but filled with 18 SBT90.2 emitters. Make it as large as it needs to be,
to support as many 21700 batteries that is needed. Heck, I want it full copper too.

Hank, take my money.
