CBD

Thanks for the advice. After this crisis is over I will see a doctor. I have exhausted most home remedies.

Sure, no problem.

i think it ‘helps’ things that are chronic, have no real test, and may vary constantly anyway

sleep issues
headaches
neuralgia
gut health
inflammation
mood
energy level
chakras

I bought a bottle of CBD isolate already mixed into PG (propylene glycol) and can use it in normal ecig/vape untis that I already use as a cigarette replacement. CBD is EXTREMELY cheap this way, and although it’s been overhyped whenever my stomach issues flare up it can help and it sure doesn’t hurt for random headaches, insomnia, etc.

“Nicotine River” has been my go-to for making my own e-cig juice and that’s where I got the isolate from.

His avatar is from The Breakfast Club (1985).

I have a number of lower back issues and have been going for various nerve blocks /epidurals and been on a few different pain meds like codone.
Recently found ‘Kratom’ and tried it, to my surprise it works better than other things i’ve tried and it doesn’t make you drowsy/dopey(as long as you don’t take a lot).
It’s kind of in a gray area, usa tried to schedule it but it was dropped and only illegal in a couple states/counties.
It’s cheapest in powder form but mildly bitter to take straight. People use it for withdrawal from harder opiates as it acts on same receptors.
Some local vape stores/head shops might sell it but they will charge a premium.

Hello penzy. I have major nerve root damage from a bad back surgery 12 years ago. Intense and permanent pain was the result. When faced with that a person will try anything to mitigate the pain, and I have. About five years ago I tried adding CBD to the arsenal. It works for me. The effect is subtle but there. Will it work for someone else? Trial and error is the only way to find out. Maybe you spend a hundred bucks doing so. Given the expense it’s worth finding a reliable source. In my case it was about three weeks of using CBD before I felt any difference. Alternatively, opiates will get the job done in minutes, which is why they are so used and abused.

I went through many suppliers before settling on one outfit. This one has verifiable third party testing and sources their ingredients from equally reliable suppliers. They also provide links to information about CBD, and are happy to honestly answers questions.

CBD
If the link isn’t blue, it’s Bluebird Botanicals out of Colorado.

So there you go, a testimonial and a source. Maybe it will help. Hell getting old huh?

As a side note, my wife years ago got a gadget for horse problems. It has a number of red(ish) led’s of different wavelengths, and the head is placed directly on the problem area. Promotes blood flow to the area I’m guessing. I asked the guy who makes it if it would work on people. He says, “oh yes,” and gave me the setting and times for human joints.” It works good for joint pain for both of us and we use it on us as well as horses. If interested I’ll shoot a pic and provide some information. I recall it costing $500 or so. Vets all have these in their truck.

Thanks both for giving your inputs. Right now I’ve been trying Voltaren for a couple months. Hard to say if it works better than CBD rubs since I also lost some weight and I am more active in the summer. I think weight loss is probably the best thing for my hip. If I can lose 10 more pounds it would be helpful. Arnica rubs are also in my rotation, mainly for sleeping.

Never heard of Kratom before. I will have to look into it. The horse gadget sounds interesting but a bit pricey for experimenting. I doubt insurance would cover it.

My wife and I both tried CBD oil for a month, for our aging creaky joints when it became legal and properly produced in Canada. Neither of us experienced any effect whatever.

“Your mileage might vary” as they say, but we felt it was a waste of money. It tastes kind of disgusting to boot.

Are you talking about Kratom or CBG?

Ok, I see you were referring to CBD. I tried the rub and the gummies. Both gave some relief. The gummies tasted ok. Price should be dropping on these products as they become more common. Same with Voltaren.

I have no idea - it’s labelled Edison Cannabis Co. / CBD Oil / 10.1 mg/ml. in sunflower carrier oil.
There’s still a part bottle left; we both gave up on it.

I’ve looked into CBD oil, as I have severe arthritis problems, and have had surgery on my spine for nerve pain caused by a herniated disc. There are no human studies showing CBD oil is safe and effective for treating arthritis pain. There are studies underway, but there are several reasons why nobody should begin using CBD oil without consulting a qualified health professional and reviewing their entire medical condition, and the medications they are taking.

The Arthritis Foundation cautions against using CBD oil if you also take naproxen, or Celebrex, or other arthritis medications they list on their website. In addition, it is not safe to consume if you are taking many commonly-prescribed medications used to treat clinical depression.

CBD oil derived from plants containing more than 0.3% THC is still a Schedule I drug, according to the FDA - even if there is no THC in the CBD oil product. And the FDA still has not approved of the use of CBD for medicinal use, or for eating or drinking - so it is illegal on the federal level. That’s why it is illegal in the USA for CBD product sellers to make health claims for the products. In 2018, the FDA issued a statement saying that CBD products approved by the FDA and containing less than 0.1% THC were Schedule V drugs. However, the FDA has approved only one product containing CBD for that drug schedule - a product for treatment of epilepsy. Other CBD products are therefore technically still illegal under federal law.

In the states, regulation of CBD oil is done on a state-by-state basis, and the rules differ. In addition, some people who have been subject to drug tests by their employers have lost their jobs due to testing positive for THC, after taking CBD oil that had very small amounts of THC in it.

There is a problem with getting a consistent dose of the cannabidiol, without too much THC, in any particular product. Lab testing has shown that, even within a particular brand of CBD oil, the amount of cannabidiol sample to sample has a wide variation that can make a significant difference in how much of the active ingredient you are consuming. There are no industry standards or laws about how much cannabidiol has to be in the products, and production apparently isn’t consistent enough to ensure a consistent product quality. The amount of THC in the products also varies greatly.

There's going to be a new research lab (near where I live) that will deal with cannabis medication:

It looks very promising to me.

I hope that they can help a lot of people.

CBD didn’t work for me.

this is what works wonders every time:

Hemp oil is useless. If you want the real CBD in high concentration, you will need to grow the marijuana/cannabis yourself and extract the oil.

Here are the type of seeds you will need to order.

Don’t waste time buying products already being sold, they are weak.

Of course, this is not legal in most states, so you will need to research many things first.

Pennzy,

When I contracted lyme at the age of 47 (8 years ago) I went through a lot of BS and about $15k (doctors were nice, tried and… failed). Finally found a guy named Stephen Buhner who had a book on Lyme- it worked.

What worked well for me is Cats Claw (standardized) herb. I take it and a few other things to this day and Lyme (and arthritis) is no longer an issue although it will always be with me and flare up if I get off my protocol for too long.

Another is Teasel which can be got in an extracted tincture (alcohol based- a few drops twice a day). But Cat’s Claw has been all I needed so I used up the Teasel first and last time and called it good enough. I also take maybe 100mg a day of Cat’s Claw (mixed with some other “Lymie” stuff on a spoon full of dried herbs- down the hatch before bed)

This is what works for me and a few folks I’ve suggested it to. Before you give up on natural options, might give them a try. Ordering online saves a LOT- I use Swanson and ONLY buy “standardized” herbs (meaning guaranteed potency). You could get a few bottles of each (and maybe a tincture) for like $40 shipped- you are wasting time trying local vitamin outlets too. Don’t even try

Good luck!

ps. I do have GOOD CBD oil, but use it occasionally (once a month’ish) when I’m feeling a bit strung out with too much going on- I’ll take a few shots under the tongue before bed. It does nothing at all for my wife, but neither did THC when she tried it (she’s an oddball in some ways with meds though too).

Cats claw sounds like it does the trick for you. I will give it a try. Is this what you are using?

Not that one

“Full Spectrum” is just a way of saying, “non-extracted; but just the ground up herb.” In other words, if it doesn’t say “standardized” it can be whatever. But standardized herbs are guaranteed in potency meaning they are tested and blended to a “standard” potency level.

Here is the only one they have right now:

They don’t seem to list a house brand in a standardized Cats Claw, but usually they do in most herbs they sell. The tinctures have really come down in price lately, you might instead go that route. Tinctures are (almost) always as good (or better) than the pills.

Swanson has been at it a long time and I find they will put some pricey stuff up, but they will always have a standardized version (if not their own brand). Yes… they sell some “hokey” stuff too. But for the price they are better than most.

I always load up on at least the free shipping deal (around $50 usually, with 30% off to boot right now). I take a few vitamins and other herbs you can buy here really cheap too (like liquid Vitamin B Complex). Another great herb BOTH my wife and I take religiously is milk thistle:

Milk thistle is THE liver protector and the bottle above doesn’t say “standardized” but it is 80% silymarin (which is a good rating). As we enjoy alcohol socially and wine with most dinners, it can’t hurt! But seriously, when you use any new herbs it’s always good to toss in milk thistle to protect the liver. If you want something for the spleen you can go with red root (or poke root) too.

We also take Lions Mane (no standardization needed with mushrooms- they are all parts “potent” BUT there are extract ratings instead). But the Swanson’s brand is fine- I checked it out. Some good, solid studies show it’s a great way to keep the brain tickin’ and avoid late life dementia/Alzheimers. If you REALLY want to go down the rabbit hole— check out a guy named Paul Stamets. He has a few Joe Rogan podcasts appearances worth a long afternoon if you’d like to (maybe) become a believer— I am.

BTW: I order maybe $200 a year in herbs TOTAL for my Lyme AND my wife’s standard daily protocols. Once you KNOW what you need (taking years to figure out), you don’t need to pay for MORE yellow pee! But this short list above is what you might consider if you wanted to try some different stuff to use with your Cats Claw and they will help it work while keeping your system flowing and protected.

- and you can save 30% plus free shipping if you order $50! That’s a decent deal from them. PM me if you want more info- glad to share what I know!

Best!

Thanks for your advice. I think I will start with the cats claw first and see how it goes. My main issue is my hip pain. Other places the pain comes and goes but the hip is steady. Trying my hardest to avoid western medicine. I know they would have me getting a replacement in a flash. That will be the last straw.
