New WildTrail (former LuckSun) BLF-D80v2 Sale is open.

That’s quite surprising! I assume this was while the light was left running?

If you’re up for it, I’d pay to ship it here for a driver swap (something with LVP, maybe) rather than let it see the trash. IMO the design is beautiful, but I never picked one up.

Nope, it sat turned off, but drained 3 cells dead. i don’t know if it was a shorted switch or shorted driver, I had originally thought the first two cells i put in it was defective, but the third was the end of the line. This light was used as a back-up, but it killed 3 cells even with the tail cap left loose. its now sitting in this weeks trash bag to go. Done with it. Adios.

The D80 driver was designed by Lexel. Maybe ask Lexel

If it was off, there’s something wrong with the switch. That should physically break the current path, regardless of what the driver’s doing.

Very weird stuff, it has a mechanical switch, the circuit is completely broken when switched off. It uses a common switch (I believe an Omten) used in many other lights. As far as I’m aware the BLF D80 is one of the best designed lights out there, mechanically everything is simple and well-proven. Only the user interface (modified biscotti by flintrock) was a gamble but appears to work very well.

My two D80V2 do not drain cells fwiw.

Could be a soldering defect (slight solder bridge) at the tail spring causing a tiny trickle current bypassing the switch, not enough to start up the MCU and cause a faint moonlight, but enough to drain cells?

i thought originally the first cell was just defective and went dead, so i tried a second, ( and third) and killed them too the same, drained the voltage to near zero.

Wow, that's terrible, DBSAR!

(I hope your experience is an isolated incident.)

Den, if you want I can inform Jacky (WildTrail/LuckySun) about this incident to see what he can do about it. Unfortunately, Sven („TheOnlyDocc“) has never shown up again since 09/2019 and all communication attempts to reach him were unsuccessful. So, I would try to help you in his stead.

Cheers,

Thomas

Does the BLF-D80v2 have a forward or reverse switch?
How does its throw compare to a good C8 with SST40 5000k?

Reverse.

If by good C8 you mean a direct drive one like this light is then the C8 will have longer throw.

Thanks

But this one is more compact and feels better. And this driver plus firmware is superb.

Seems like a good choice of emitter too. Fantastic light, I need a forward clicky though with momentarily half press to last used ramp.

Would be great if these lights could be offered with a forward clicky option for people who need a tactical style light.

Forward clicky makes it a few mm longer and IMO makes a lot of the modes more difficult to transition between. I don’t mind them on some lights though.

I see you said “ramp”, none of the lights with only one mechanical switch will “ramp”. However, there are dual switch lights that can work like you describe (Sofirn C8F). A bit bigger light though.

Depends. If a driver uses a attiny 13 and up MCU (best with attiny25 or higher) it could be flashed with Toykeepers Crescendo, which ramps. Reverse clicky mechanical switch is easiet to use.

I should have known a senior member would mention this, lol. That is hardly a solution for 2 month member with forward switch request. BUT, yes technically correct. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for all the advice

This is probably getting way off topic but…

Here is a link to a Convoy C8+ with ramping
Convoy C8 with ramping driver

Will this work with a forward switch?

I have a C8G and it works great (I realise that it has two switches as mentioned, just saying). Set the ramp and then just use the half press to access it. Fantastic for night patrols. Only gripe is the CW tint else it would have been perfect for me. Hence me looking at the BLF-D80v2 which seems like a awesome light. Another user suggested that I could swap the emitter of the C8G but I’ll rather look for a stock light that meets my needs before resorting to modding.

Sofirn SP35/IF25 clip fits very well :+1:

Nice! Thank you.
