What blade did you EDC today?

BM940Ti by Beketen:

That is quite a beauty. I think I like it more than the Sebenza 21. And certainly at a far more benign price! Do you think it’s really M390 steel?

The seller claims that it’s real M390. I asked him before buying it although I knew I would order it anyway.
It came with a wicked sharp edge out of the box.

Have any established knife reviewers done any write-ups or articles on these? How does the action, heat treat, etc. compare to the genuine article?

I really wish there was some reliable way of knowing the true steel and quality of these clones. However, I believe the legally grey nature of the existence of these makes it difficult. Many reputable reviewers avoid these clones to prevent the knife community from giving them criticism for even possessing or purchasing a clone. Even if one could verify the steel is M390 with titanium scales, reproducing the same purchase can also be a challenge as it seems these Chinese sellers switch names or distributors when they start getting into trouble.

Yeah that is one of the more blatant Copies. Reminds me of the Praetorian (sp) that was copied to the ends of the earth a few years back.

Even if it had verifiable good steel I will support the made in the USA maker. Don’t read I am getting all righteous on this subject as I have had a few go arounds pages back. Realte (again not sure if I spelled that correct or not) is one of the makers coming out of China that is a first rate knife. I just don’t own any.

From my sample size of one. M390 is kinda a pain to get sharp, and that could be just me as sometimes things just sharpen easy and other times I fight with it. Blade shape owes a lot to that as well. Right now I have been carrying S30V and S35V in my rotation a lot with one knife having Elmax.

Super steels. Yeah they are worth it in my opinion. Someone asked above and I can say that after stropping a few knives on Monday, I thought about when I last put one to a stone. Most are at least a year and half. Yes I do rotate 3-5 knives a week depending on mood, what season it is and what I am wearing for the office. Some days it is a ZT562 and others it is a Benchmade 940. Although I looked at the BM 9400 auto, and it may follow me home in the future.

Yes, agree with Strayz…RC…ZT, Benchmade or Spyderco and maybe throw in a Reate.
Here are some of my favorite EDC.

What model is the Spyderco 2nd up from the lower right?

It is the Spyderco design from the late Bob Lum “Chinese Folder” with aluminium handle in Z189 super steel.
Would prefer Ti handle…you like?

I have a Navy K603, which is a budget version of the top right Benchmade.

I'm sure the Benchmade is nicer, however.

The Benchmade Neil Blackwood Skirmish has a Ti handle and S30V steel blade.
The only thing I wish it had was a frame lock stop. The Ti frame lock stretches out and the blade drops open with the less resistance detent ball.
Love the hefty of the knife.

My other favourite are my customs from the late Peter Marzitelli. The one of a kind Big Snarly in Dino camo is in my pocket most of the time.
Met him at his house and showed me the last custom folder is made…fell in love with it and picked it up from him.

Funny… when you wrote “you like?,” I couldn’t help but think of this guy:

I like the “arc” shape with the line following through from handle to blade.

That was who I was thinking too and I have co-workers that also use this phrase…LoL

BORAT from Kazakhstan!!!

Today was the Benchmade Mike Snody Gravitator.

Some designs, are just that, designs.
And while i approve having a little edge over the monochrome mess we all are engulfed in, then some times the urge to be different bother me a little too, feel like people are trying too hard.

And those thumb studs, i am not too crazy about those.

I also find myself getting annoyed with designs that strain to just be “different” as eye candy, not as a matter of function. I have been seduced and then disappointed. I tend to go more conservative now, although occasionally something catches my eye. This narrows down the pool and thus minimizes excess knife buying!

Blasphemer! There is never excess knife buying, shop less often and buy more knives.

Yeah some of the designs are out there and some are rather good. I also am limiting the eye candy designs and going back to more form and function.

I didn’t actually carry this today, but I do strap it to my belt when I’m at the cabin.

My brother-in-law is trying to start a business as a knife maker, and this is one of his earlier attempts. He also made the sheath. It’s a great knife, but the stuff he makes now is way beyond this.
