CBD

so you can;t tell what works and what doesn;t

Correct, as long as something in it is working I’m ok with that. Of course I’m always looking for something better as everything only helps marginally. My future MRI will tell more. Freezing works good too but hips aren’t easy to ice well. My one ankle was hurting me 3 years ago and I was told to get it scraped out. Daily 20 minute soaks in ice water and nice thick merino wool blend socks kept me out of surgery. The hip issue has been around for at least 2 years now so I am running out of alternative remedies.

Most medical folks may recommend cortisone shots as a treatment in the interim for your condition, but those bring their own (often nasty) side effects. Medical science is about balancing the good a therapy does vs the possible side effects. Is it helping more than hurting? methodology. Personally, I’ve been on both emds and I’m alive today due to that methodology (invasive brainstem surgery to remove a tumor). I’m alive and doing significantly better than they expected, but still suffered greatly due to side effects and complications. 3 years recovery It’s better than being dead though. I will say that my recovery was remarkable and unexpected. I was expected to be severely handicapped or have significant deficits (if I lived). I guess they figured it was a risk worth taking.

Glad to hear you came through all that. Sounds like an ordeal. :+1:

I use CBD for migraine pain and it helps quite well. It usually depends on how bad the migraine attack is but for normal migraine the CBD helps. I use CBD powder (from amazon) which I think is the best and easiest way to use it because you can decide how much you want and you can easily mix it into food oder drinks. I put it into my tea and that works very well.

If you don’t want any THC in your system….

I am no expert, but this is wildly inaccurate at best, and I think it odd no one in the thread corrected this. I think you may be confusing CBD and THC with indica vs sativa strains of cannabis.

CBD and THC are two among quite a large number of cannabinoids found in cannabis. CBD has analgesic effects… it is not something that you want a lot of if you are using recreationally, too much is really not a good time at all, but it does have medicinal purposes otherwise used in measure. THC gets you high, and can certainly help with pain, but THC is not exactly a pain killer nor analgesic… with enough of it, you simply no longer care about the pain.

And not all strains will be burdened with paranoia. Too much of anything is a bad idea, and the drive to increase THC to insane levels has already killed, unfortunately. Some people just have no restraint. A little THC is pleasant, a little more makes you high, even more makes you stoned, and going beyond intoxication with it is simply idiotic.

There are really a lot of cannabinoids and terpenes. Hopefully, someday, science will figure them all out… check links above for descriptions of the more well known ones.

Any opinions as to topicals vs oils vs gummies in regard to a arthritic hip? Oil is the only one I have not tried. Topicals and gummies are helpful but not 100%.

CBD for sure brings out the spam bots, it’s interesting how they join a flashlight forum and wait for months lurking in the shadows… just waiting and then BAM spam some links.

Whatabout Kraton? Everyone in my gym seems to be taking it for joint pain.

Yes, i posted about it back a page. People take it before work out for the energy boost too

Mayo clinic says to be careful with kratom

I have arthritis in my lower back, when it flares up I smoke a joint or take a bong toke of some premium flower with high amounts of THC. I also at times get anxiety in the middle of the night as well as I also have insomnia. So know I use flower every night, no more more waking up suddenly with anxiety. Great night if sleep.
I still keep a vaporizer in high thc on my night stand, it offers immediate relief and I am back to sleep in a minute.
I recently was job searching so I had to get clean, after 2 months I was still dirty, yeah I’m a heavy user. Anyway, I went through serious bouts of insomnia. I searched and found some very expensive cbd capsules and tincture without THC, zero. It worked very well, few drops under my toung.
Now that I changed jobs, I’m back to being a heavy user.
Drinks, capsules, tablets, gummies, vaporizers, flower I have all this. If you don’t mind the thc, you should try it.

Waaaait a sec. The big bold title proclaims it’s “unsafe and ineffective”, yet:

Kratom takes effect after five to 10 minutes, and its effects last two to five hours. The effects of kratom become stronger as the quantity taken increases. In animals, kratom appears to be more potent than morphine.

Sounds pretty damned effective to me, no?

THC does not seem to help my hip. I like topicals but hips are not good candidates for rubs. The joint is large and not close to the skin. Maybe edible THC would be a different story than smoking but unfortunately Pa. makes prescription marijuana a PITA.

Out of everything I’ve tried THC beverages work the fastest and also some tablets brand called Breeze.
I like flower with high thc up 30%….but usually in the high 20’s.

What bout a Tens machine? I think you have to be able to were the electrodes all the time to lower the pain but seems like an idea for getting off pain killers.

I tried Kratom before it was banned in the UK. I had some good advice from one site and found a strain that help. Unfortunately I can’t get it any more. Hospital gave me some Naproxen that worked well, no side effects, but my GP won’t let me have any more (its hard on the kidneys). All I can get out of the GP is co-codamol 30/500 (codeine/paracetamol). Which I take as a last resort. I’ve tried an Actipatch and it did noticeably reduce the pain when on (I was surprised), but not enough. These were for my sternum fracture and damage to my costal joints. I bought a tens machine, but told not to use it, because of proximity to my heart and the titanium plates.

I get more arthritis like pain from an old bike injury to my elbow and a knee that has caused pain since I was a teenager (plus almost every joint these days). I’ve used magnets on my elbow and knee in the past, which helped, but it could be just the support from the wrap they were in. Devils claw also helped with my knee and elbow. I’d seen magnets and devils claw help our old horses in the past, so though they were worth a try.

Best thing I’ve tried was acupuncture. First a private one that worked wonders. Although I was having treatment from my sternum, I mentioned my knee was playing up one day. I walked in with pain and out with none. I’d describe it as the first time I’d walked proper in years. Second one I saw was on the NHS, still helped, but not as good. NHS appointments were too far apart and part of the process is a need to relax, which you can’t do when next to the midwife and X-ray (every time, screaming kids). Hopefully next year I’ll be able to start back with the private acupuncture. With the acupuncture I was sleeping better, on time for work more and less depressed, so eating less comfort food and losing weight.

I had some heel pain a couple of years ago, GP advice didn’t help. Physiotherapist didn’t help (even with his laser machine). I saw this video, bought a personal massager and it was worth every penny. Great for muscle pain.

I’ve thought about CBD in the past, but its how you know you are getting something that’s not just snake oil. I’ve noticed Holland and Barrett have a range of CBD. The lass in their Barrow shop has been very helpful in the past. When lockdown ends, I may have a trip to Barrow, if their shop is open.

That really sucks. That dose of Tylenol is really close to OD (more than 3000mg/day) and liver damage. I think it should’ve been taken off the market decades ago. And 30mg of codeine is unlikely to do anything. Ask for Vicodin, Hydrocodone Bitartrate and Acetaminophen (same as paracetamol and Tylenol) Tablets, USP 5 mg/300 mg), lower dose of Tylenol is safer, and 5mg of Hydrocodone will have an effect, kill the pain. But be careful, opiates are highly addictive.

Paracetamol rarely does anything for me. I asked for just Codeine, GP gave me 6 tablets, even the pharmacist said that was tight of him. Previous GP, before my sternum fracture was diagnosed, prescribed 3 Paracetamol (500mg) 4 times a day and 2 Ibuprofen (200mg) 4 times a day, for a week. She said Paracetamol would be like gnats piss to someone my size. She left the practice shortly after that, to ‘help the refugees in Greece’.
