Just voted for a head torch. Every once in a while I go jogging with a flashlight attached to my head with a head strap. I often use a zoomie, but I find the beam profile of a Convoy S2+, S21A or similar quite useable. Some throw is needed, but nothing excessive. Color rendering is super important, in my opinion.
I would love to see a head torch built with a sunlight spectrum led. Take a look Sunlight spectrum leds @ Guangzhou Juhong Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., for example. I understand these are COB leds with very high Vf and low intensity, but these are minor issues in a head lamp (imho). Wheight doesn't frightens me (my usual setup is nearly 190g already and I find it comfortable), and I think it would be easy to use one of those sunlight spectrum COB leds (maybe with tint to choose from to the consumer's preference), combine it with an efficient boost converter driver with nice software and… voilà! A bestseller head torch.
Optics would need to be carefully chosen for it to deliver the right amount of throw for night jogging or even bicycle riding. Maybe dual emitter with two different reflectors, or daring short focus travel aspheric setup with precollimator.
Id like to help design a head lamp. Lumintop made one that was very close to what I want- the HL3A- but it could be better. I am starting to think theyve discontinued it as the links to the light are now broken on both lumintop’s website and Neal’s.
I agree with some of what he said . Dual led- one part has interchangable optics, the other is possibly a mule with a cob led. Both hi CRI or at least very easy on the eyes.
This will be a very compact and lightweight unit for what it is. I have much of the design of the body already worked out, just would ned to wait for the final custom driver dimensions.
You stole the words right out of my mouth… couldn’t agree more (despite my previous post). This sounds like my HK04, bit with a better/deeper/wider(?) lense! Probably one of my favorite lights!
I really thought anduril 2 was going to be the bees knees, but it kinda took a turn away from my ideal U/I.
I think a blf headlamp should have its own brand new U/I that is not a real similar copy of anduril, and it needs a different name. As a headlamp interface it needs to be simpler to use, and ANYONE including my mom should be able to figure it out. It needs to be easier to lock and unlock.
I dont need the option for strobe or blinkies on my headlamp. I just need instant unlock and up/down. Any options to change stuff are limited and well hidden.
I do have U/I in mind and will post it when I get time.
Efficient driver would be great. I like loneocean’s new super efficient driver. A quad is going in the wrong direction for a headlight I think, because it makes the head get too fat. For when a headlamp is not being worn on the head, pocket carrying a quad is too bulky. Even a triple could be slimmed down by being only 2 emitters with optics side by side. You could theoretically have a light body and head that is barely bigger than the battery itself if you positioned the emitters with the idea of keeping things skinny. Keep in mind this is a clean slate light and we can do whatever we want.
Im not sure that 2800+ lumens are needed, but the option to have some decent throw, along with the option to have a floody beam in the same light appeals to me. Sometimes when I’m riding I need throw, and when working I need flood.
How about a light the size of an MF01S with 18 SST70s and tint shifting? A 30000lm popcan light would be nice. Currently we only have the X80-GT which is expensive.
OK, Here it is, lol. What about a torch that can sustain its highest setting for hours and not just minutes at best. A max of 600 to 800lm with enough mass for cooling and powered by three 21700 cells. Use the Anduril UI and maybe a TIR for both flood and decent throw. instead of overdriving an emitter maximize it for longevity, 600 to 800lm in the right body should be able to run without overheating for hours or until LVP kicks in. I think we have enough super duper I can blind you from a mile away and light up an entire county at the same time flashlights lol. It’s not always about power, I guess what I am trying to say is more battery and less lumens. I want a long hauler Low horsepower lots of torque and tons of fuel
