Simon, can I have S21B with CULPM1.TG and 12 groups 6A driver? How to order it?
Hi Simon, I am very interested in flashlights using monochromatic light, e.g. your new C8+ using Osram's KR CSLNM1.23. Did you measure the output in lumen yet? I wonder if 2.5A is its sweet spot already or if it can safely be driven beyond 3A with signicantly more output.
For comparison:
I have bought the Amutorch New VG10 from Neal Zhang. It's fitted with Osram's Ostar Projection Compact LE Q8WP. It has 3 modes only (Low-Medium-High). For the naked eye, there's barely any difference to see between Medium and High mode. But on High mode the lights draws 5A from the battery. The head unit gets fairly hot within a few minutes.

I think there is no problem at all to increase the current to 3A. The mode of my driver sample is 30–100, but visually the brightness difference between the two modes is very small. I consider only providing one mode 100% or two modes 10–100. I don’t know about hunting. I would like to know if 10% mode is useful for hunting. Or is a 100% mode sufficient for hunting?

Personally, I would favor following forward clicky setting for a red/green light thrower.
Hold 2s from OFF: 0.01% = Firefly mode
Tap #1: 20% = Low
Tap #2: 100% = High (should ideally be stable in output, using a constant current driver)
No strobe, no SOS, no beacon
4x quick tapping: Change mode order (Low-High <> High-Low)

You need a reylight driver

Yes this would be almost perfect.
100% mode is NOT sufficient for hunting. Having a LOW is important.
I wonder if there is a visible difference between 10-20-30% as Simon mentioned.
SOS: I personally find hidden RED Strobe or SOS or beacon, quite useful.
Our car always breaks down in the wrong place and using a RED flashlight blinky instead of the car blinkies preserves the car battery . Of course it could be Hidden but very useful. on the other hand WHITE strobe is annoying.
Wait… what were we talking about again? Existing light like a C8+ or a fictitious maybe-light?

existing C8+
basicaly a C8+ host with a RED or GREEN OSRAM,
L21A would be good candidate too.

Saw this yesterday. Thanks.
Did the seller said anything?
Monochromatic red is useful for hunting, but what about green? I guess it's not for a traffic light, LoL!

For photographers 10 to 100% is too big a step. I prefer the second mode to be at the point at which the light can run without getting excessively hot.

I sold like hundreds of lights to hunters, literarly all of them were single mode. I offer to put modes as buyer wants, they all say “one mode - 100%” and a few that I sold with 12 modes firmware returned for reprogramming sooner or later.
Aha. Ain’t got, so dunno. Dual-switch, I imagine, to be able to use a FC in the tail.
The L2 has a FC tail, no? Damn, I got 2 of ’em and I can’t recall…

I hear you, you are right , 12 modes is a major overkill. I think Low is very useful while hunting. but Lux-Perpetua asked for a simple config mode High~~Low and Low ~~>High. Maybe a 3rd mode just 100% would be a plus ?

I think the are talking about a single emitter C8, but not a bad idea for a dual emiter with dual switch.
I think the L2 has an FC in the tail.
