Need a Fenix L2D tailcap and switch

Hi all, I’m looking for a replacement tails and switch for the old Fenix L2D light. My husband loves that old light, and a battery leaked and ruined it. Let me know if you have one, and what you want for it.

Thanks!

Did you ever find the tail cap and switch? I have 100% the same issue for the same reason.

Nope. Never did find a new tailcap and switch.

How bad is the corrosioin? Is it only the tailcap? The tailcap and switch can both be taken apart and cleaned. That might fix any problems.

Corrosion was pretty heavy. I did take it apart and clean it, but no joy.

Just to make sure, does it work when you put batteries in and short the end of the battery tube to the batteries? If it doesn’t, there’s other problems with it. If you can solder, new springs and switches aren’t expensive. At the same time, you can probably buy a switch that might work and not have to bother with any soldering.

I took the switch out of my L2D and measured it. The round pcb has a diameter that’s not quite 18mm. The total length from the end of the spring to the end of the switch is roughly 18mm as well. The spring is 8mm long and 7mm at it’s widest. The switch itself is just under 8mm tall from the pcb.

Replacement switches are available from the overseas sites like aliexpress and others, but you’ll be waiting a month or more to get them. Mountain Electronics has some switches that should work, but you’ll pay a little more and get them much faster. They have a *17mm switch, but it isn’t a reverse clicky like the L2D’s and the switch itself is too tall.

You can contact them and ask if they’d take that switch off and solder one of their reverse clicky switches on. I don’t know how wide the spring is on it, but if it’s too wide for o-ring under the threaded ring to fit around, they have another that looks like it will work too even if a little tight.

If you get it working again, that’d be great. I love mine and have been carrying it with me every since I got it way back in 2007. Sadly, 2AA flashlights seem to have fallen out of style in favor of 18650s.

Thanks for the info. I was able to get a replacement switch and cap from pc_light here at BLF. It works fine now with the new one.

The light works fine if I jump the battery to the light’s body. This is the only light that I own that cost more than $10! Heresy on some forums. I found out about the problem when the power went out and we were put on evacuation stand by. I grabbed all my lights and checked them. The L2D was dead. I tried to find a tail cap replacement but with no power and no internet I was less than efficient. I had to do everything by smart phone, and pack up for the possible run for the hills. That should get me some cred in the flashlight world. I had one end cap reply but it didn’t work out. Power is back on. Sky is a pretty bright orange color and I will try to locate one on aliexpress or Mountain Electronics. I appreciate the lead on those two sources. Fires are still going and we are still packed up. I will jump on it while power is still up.
Thanks

Vic303, I’m glade to hear you got a switch. I wish I had ordered a half dozen of them years ago. Compared to lights these days, they may not have all the features, but the L2D is still a very nice light.

cadjak, that’s good. I think I spent $55 on my L2D-CE way back and have never regretted it. Actually, I wish I had gotten more. If you get your’s working again, I recommend using Energizer lithiums if you’re going to store it with the batteries in it. Better yet, you can buy some Eneloops with a good charger and those will last you years. They’re some very nice recharable NiMH cells. Both won’t leak on you like alkalines can.
