CRX Flashlight Builds

I mostly do this here as a distraction from the daily grind of chasing money so if I did this solely to earn a living I would probably need to find another creative hobby
Stay in a nice workshop all day making lights as opposed to jumping about electrical installations is becoming a much more appealing thought as I get older I must admit
True what you say though, prices are up from now on

:+1:

WOW CRX! Those are some great looking lights! Thanks for taking the time to post pix.

If possible could you be specific on the brand of glow powder and tape that you use? I don’t remember the brand that I have tried using before, but it wasn’t very good.
If you have mentioned it in the thread already my apologies.

There’s more information and some experimentation with the glow stuff in this thread :+1:

That’s where I saw it! SWEET! I read that thread last year when I first joined BLF. I originaly got the idea for using glow tape from your Emisar D4 thread, but I had forgotten where I saw the info on the glow gaskets. I want to use it on my D4 and D4s.
Thank you.

You could always donate a lathe to the cause, ya know. :face_with_monocle:

CRX, in the first post I see “FourSevens Mini AA Ti - MT-G2 Q0 5000K - FET 15 - 2x14250 - Rv Clicky Tail Sw - 1960lm”.
But after clicking the link I see 1600 lm instead.

Output varies dependng on cells & other factors.
The lower measurement would have been taken before sale.

So both are correct, right?

The brighter measurement would have been taken with brand new cells and the lower taken with the 14250 cells worn in after a while. I would go with the lower number.
All measurements are taken on my small home made hobbysphere

CRX, looking at some of your modded lights, specially those that already have a charging port/circuit and where you replace the driver, can you tell if there is any concern regarding the ‘charging circuit vs the new driver’?

I want to mod a light that already has in-built charging, but I wanna mod the driver (probably with Bistro HD OSTM firmware), but I never did this and was thinking eventual conflicts between the circuits! You did some so far, hence my question

And…nice work :sunglasses:

Depends on the setup really.
I think I usually just install a new separate charging pass through unit on builds like that unless the original driver/ charger units can be split. I’m not a driver guru so just hack it
What light?

Thanks for the reply mate
The light is the new On The Road 311. It has the head, where the driver is ( it has a spring to touch the upper part of the charging platform), and the the charging part is on the top of the body (not detachable).

My only concern is to provoque any kind of short, malfunction or…a drive whose UI doesn’t act correctly due to some aspect related to the charging circuit.

I ain’t guru of any of these things so…I just hope I don’t mess it badly

With the pass-through in the body like that, you can swap just about whatever drive you want on top. Just be careful about how the contacts are for positive and negative and you’ll be fine.

That puts the light on my radar, BTW. I own several lights with the built-in charger in that style, but without tail switches. They’re in a pile of “I swear I’ll add a tail switch someday” but I’m probably deceiving myself. This is… this checks a lot of boxes. MascaratumB, if you do mod this, would you be kind enough to document it? Photos and/or descriptions of what may be hangups would be extremely useful!

Now I just have to find budget and time for this (and the other half-finished mods I’ve got going)… and a kid due in September…

Thanks for the reply Scallywag, and congratulations in advance  I hope everything goes well with all the family
I will take care about the contacts!

And when the light arrives, I will review it, and in case I mod it I will document it for sure
This will be my first in a light like this, so I will take photos and describe it!

Seeing some of the mods made by CRX in this thread alerted me to this possibility, but not knowing the implications was bugging me.
Now I just want to arrive and in some months I’ll mod it (I have to check the driver diameter and the flashlight structure :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow. Your work is amazing. Truly beyond reproach. I had no idea the level of expertise that could be achieved. I’m a DIY type guy, I build a lot of things. Your work humbles me.

These look interesting for some CRX love

U sure these were made by CRX?

Insane set of builds/mods! Didn’t know you’d combined a torch and petrol lighter, love it. And i don’t see your zoomie so more to come

They’re not, i think necrophobic75’s saying this would be a good item for CRX to transform into a torch.

Ye, would be cool to see what he could come up with using one of them
