Got these bad boys out of a new power bank - tips on how to remove tabs?

I’m new here so still working out how to post pics correctly. Anyways is there a way to remove these tabs or is it better to solder over them? These are brand news LG’s that are doing nothing so I may as well try to use them if I’m able to.

Been told they have CDR of 5A. Not really any good.

I used to do it with Dremel with sanding or cutting head but then realized there is no point in doing it and there is no problem use the cells like that
When you get more experienced you will remove the tabs entirely without leftovers :)

They are pretty good cells. They run well in a Convoy S2+ or other lower draw lights. I run 3 in parallel in a Fireflies ROT66. Just sand down the sharp edges and run with them

I did it with Dremel.

I normally leave the tabs on, never had any issues with it. In rare cases I put a blob of solder on top to make it more smooth.

Are these from a xiaomi powerbank? Then they work well at up to 1C, but not recommended for anything above.

I leave them on. Unless you run into clearance issues with or just want them to look nice you can use flush cutters or the Dremel to pry o rd cut them off.

I use this kind of cutting pliers: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32945829748.html

You can cut things very flat with them. They are a bit sensitive and break off easily if you cut too thick wires.

flat file
dremel
grinding wheel

the metal is not hard, it is a quick job even with a file.
30 sec each
2 on a grinder :“)

I’ve broken at least 3 pairs of these in the last 2 years from being too physical with them. On soft metals up to 3mm they work great though.

Be super careful with filing or sanding. You risk damaging the wrap near the positive end and expose the bare can. Touching the positive end and that bare spot causes a short which is bad. Ask me how I know!

Some grinding stone(s) with the proper geometric shape, a rotary tool, and subtlety with a little skill is all you need to leave those cells very nice:

Something like the above, for example (site link).
