[Review] Acebeam L17 green - compact & powerful thrower

Thank you klrman. I guess the LED in Amutorch‘s New VG10 can be compared with the white „White Flat 2“ while the LED in Acebeam‘s red L17 can be compared with the white „White Flat 1“.

I wonder if Acebeam is interested in using the bigger but more powerful red version in their L17, too. I guess it’s difficult to source Osram‘s LE R Q8WP as I did not find it anywhere to buy (Mouser, Arrow, Digikey).

Please check with Martin before you order the Amutorch from Neill. He may offer you a nice discount. And be careful with the high mode as the light gets warm very quickly. ;-) You will probably feel most comfortable using the medium mode which looks almost as bright as the high mode but with less excess heat.

Interested in some comparisons to the E10

Seems to throw a bit further?

well done

Acebeam informed me that L17 does support momentary mode using an optional remote switch (which was not supplied with the light). I have revised my review accordingly. I still would have favored a momentary mode being available in the flashlight's standard tailcap.

Not sure what this Acebeam will do that my $18 Convoy can’t

Was thinking the same thing. I'm going to order a green led from mtn electronics unless I find it something else and put it in a c8 host and see how it compares to my L17.

What led and driver setup did you use in your C8?

It’s an xp-e2 from Mtn. I bought a green one as well, just haven’t put it in a light yet. Driver is a standard convoy 8 x 7135

Buy an acebeam and find out, so you can be sure.

Thanks. Going to order a green one and put it in a C8 host just to see how big or not the difference is compared to the L17.

It seems the L17 I have reviewed on this thread has died silently being a shelf-queen in my closet. :((

Well, maybe she felt lonely and heartbroken being used only once ever since I made the review. She would let me turn her on anymore, regardless what buttons I tried to push on her. :TIRED:

Strange as she was in good company with some more Acebeam flashlights and the Acebeam battery inside was still clocking at 4.10V. I also gave her an organ transplant (battery exchange) but she felt no love for me anymore. RIP, Acebeam L17. :(

Supplemental: Maybe this story will still have an happy ending as one of Acebeam's official retailers will be so kind to exchange the defective unit by a new one.

Did you long press for 5 seconds? I thought mine died until I realized it was the electronic lockout.

Yep. You need to hold the button for 5 sec or so until it blinks. It might be locked. Acebeam are pretty good lights and shouldn’t break. If it has, send it back for warranty since it has 5 year warranty.

Oh dear… :person_facepalming:
That might be possible indeed. Anyway, since it has a slightly faulty driver like maukka‘s L17 it will be exchanged anyway.

Hey Lux-Perpetua, I can't find a data sheet on the Osram KG CSLPM1.2 Green that you list as the emitter in the L17. Is it maybe spelled wrong?

Since it's so yellow, I'm thinking of swapping it with the KP CSLNM1.F1 from Osram but I want to compare specs first.

Well, here's my assumption:

I am 100% sure that Acebeam once stated the exact name of the emitter on their L17 website, as I mentioned here before...

https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/62764/5

Now, they seem to have removed that detail from their specifications chart, for reasons unknown. I have looked for KG CSLPM1.2 on Osram's website and I agree, it's nowhere to be found, see below.

This is however not unusual as I have another example from Osram's portfolio that cannot be google'd anymore. It's called Osram Ostar Projection Power LE A P0MQ. It is a amber colored LED and it can be driven up to 10A with an output of approx. 1,400 lumens. This powerful LED will probably be used in another interesting Wurkkos flashlight, see my thread about TS30S/TS30R. I have the datasheet here but it cannot be found on Osram's website anymore. Maybe Osram has discontinued this one as well as KG CSLPM1.2 and Acebeam was able to buy some residual reels of it.

Looking at Osram's current portfolio, there is no green 3030 or 4040 footprint LED available that can do the rated 2,000 lumens of Acebeam's L17.

Maybe Acebeam got a deal on a bunch of yellowish green leds before Osram gave up on them? I have to admit that the L17 has the most yellowish green color I have ever seen, but technically it is still green because you can see green in it. If I ever get that bezel removed and can remove the optics, I will put a real osram green in there like the KP CSLNM1.F1. Either that or I sell my green L17 for a steal of a deal!

I‘m not sure if NM1 will fit to the driver. If Acebeam really used PM1 there’s a big chance the current will be a bit too high for using it with the smaller NM1 version. But I might be wrong with my assumption. Just thinking...

That's what I was concerned about. I gave up asking Acebeam to clarify anything. If I want to buy something they reply instantly but as soon as I ask any tech question they stay mute. They really seem to be a weird company.

What is the hotspot angle? What is the diameter at 100 meters?

Do animal eyes glow the same colors with green light?
