OH HELL YEAH, bring back HID, such wasted potential. I can see this being better than LED for it’s size/output/throw/price. But what about bulb hour lifespan? any numbers there? Last i heard anything over 70-80watts=big reduction in life esp with cheaper lamps.
2km is pretty bloody respectable, aswell the covers good idea.
HID has an old school charm to it like incans but different.
An arc lamp produces some of the farthest throwing light in the world. Some of the old carbon arc searchlights could throw 20 miles (but consume 20 kilowatts of power). It made me a believer when I switched my car’s halogen lamps to HID in 2008. Never went back. You have to get good quality ballasts though since cheap ones don’t last and perform poorly. Xenon lamps are cheap as well…cheap to make unlike high performance LED’s. The downside is the fact you need to package the bulky ballast and driver into a small package- that makes them expensive. I’d say the power consumption is similar to a high power LED flashlight, consumes less amps, but more volts is all and less heat.
Hello, hid bulbs have a long service life. From FF1 to FF5, thousands of flashlights have been shipped. No one has ever worn out the bulbs unless they are damaged by falling from high altitude,
HID light is generated by electric arc breaking through the inert gas, no filament is applied there. Therefore, the service life is longer
HID at present, only the drive circuit may be broken, but with the technology update and upgrading of these generations, FF5 has been very stable
This light is absolutely incredible. I agree with the comment that this is superior to everything in my collection even the mighty Imalent MS18. The 4300K is beautiful - can see all the colors of the leaves that are changing even when it’s pitch dark outside
How are you guys carrying yours? Mine didn’t come with a shoulder strap and there seems to only be one hole in the cap, not another in the front like the MS18 has
I’m using a fairly sturdy wrist lanyard but it’s not an ideal solution
Can’t wait to fire this puppy up tonight for trick or treat
Thank you Photon… I just got my light (4300) and also need to order some batteries. The battery carrier/battery tube I am interested in actually holds 8-18650s so as to increase runtime. I apologize for not making that more clear in my post. Also, im not sure which ones to go with (Sony VTC6A, Samsung 30Q or ???). That is so ironic you mentioned the gryfalcon as I saw it got good reviews and was actually looking at them today.
Hi Ch1ir
years ago I bought the FF4. I had never operated it until months after purchase. One evening I was bored and decided to charge up some batts and fire it up & pointed it in our court. It had just got dark, the house furthest away was about 100 yards away and it blew that house up like it was daytime-literally… I was in utter shock, mouth agape that a handheld light could do that… while the house was lit up like noon time, my wife freaked out and kept telling me to turn it off because the house residents (which we didnt know all that well) were surely going to come outside to see what was going on lol. ever since then, ive been a fan of FF.
What batteries are you using, if you dont mind me asking?
