Questions about Fire Foxes FF5 HID

Yes, the battery rack is more convenient to use, and the battery can be replaced at any time to increase the service life

I want a lemax bighead lx70 but I cant really justify it so I have been looking at how to put a bigger reflector on the FF5 or 4. I can probably buy the genuine head but with the reflectors I have built I am wondering how do I grind a compound reflector. The ff5 reflector looks to be the same curve as the ff4. So from the specs I could find out of curiosity plotted the curve I would like to have a reflector with the same geometry. FF6 with 6inch head??

On the fence between getting one of these two cells:

1) Samsung 30Q 18650 3000mAh 15A Battery

or… 2) Murata VTC6 IMR 18650 (formerly Sony) 3000mAh 3.7V Unprotected High-Drain 30A Lithium Manganese (LiMn2O4) Flat Top Battery

If the specs are accurate, I’d get double the current out of the Sony’s

In reality the Sony can hold higher discharge for longer, but is temperature limited. Realistically they are both 15A cells and only the Sony can do 20-25A for short periods (up to 70 or 80C), but reduces its lifespan. Unless you need that extra ‘oomph’ from the battery you’re fine with 30Q. They are a bit cheaper.

Thank you my friend. I just ordered 10 of the 30Q’s from Illumn and 4 18350’s for the KR4 and some other lights that use them  I have some other lights that take 18650’s and it will be good to have some extras around and I wanted to get to the $75 free shipping

Hello,

some Questions to that light.

4300K and 6500K.
I´ve read in another Thread, that 6500K is warmer or 4300K ist colder delivered.

In German TLF there are Beamshots of FF4, 65W, 4300K compared to FF5, 100W, 4300K.
FF5, 4300K looks much colder.

4300K should be better in output, more penetration in rainy weather.

Have anyone made some comparison of both versions 4300K and 6500K.
Beamshots?

Another question. Has anyone beamshots of the FF5 in low mode (40W).

Is there a batterie tube and carrier available for 8x 18650?
Or only the special 8 cell battery pack?

Where can I buy this 8 cell battery pack? or 8 cell carrier and tube.

Thanks a lot.

Hello, 4300k has high luminous efficiency and strong penetration in rainy and foggy weather. The other 8 battery rods are no longer sold abroad, because the logistics cost of built-in batteries is very high. Thank you

My 4300K is on the way! Two sets of Samsung 30Q’s charged and ready to rock

You’re going to be blown away by this light. As somebody that has the previous models, they really did it right with this one. The FF3 was a true pocket rocket with simple on off interface and a thermal stepdown. I like the knurling style styling the best with the tight knurling. The FF4 added the additional button to the side for mode switching. The smooth reflector and greater power made it a stand out and appeared to even best $2k Polarians in some of the shots I’ve seen. But the added turbo requires holding the button while it was in low. However you only got 3 min in turbo and once you got the stepdown or switched back to low or high, the light couldn’t be put back to turbo until it was power cycled. But with the FF5 you get a legit 10,000L thrower with 1.2 million lux. Plus the user interface is nearly as simple as the on/off of the FF3, with the side switch controlling h/l and the back being the power on/off. To really appreciate it, like any thrower, get out to an area where you can really stretch it’s legs an fire it up.

Haha dude I’m really excited. The only long distance thrower (if you could even call it that) is the Acebeam W30 which although cool, isn’t very useful for much of anything.

Wow, my FF5 already arrived. I’ve heard people complain about Neal’s shipments being slow but man… Ordered on 4 Oct, shipped on 9 Oct and received 16 Oct. Not bad when it’s coming from China in the middle of a global pandemic

The light is of course incredible. I love the cylinder case. The accessories weren’t packaged very well - there were some random pieces of what looked like paracord and the extra gaskets and stuff were just tossed in the box

Super bright when tested in my basement. Can’t wait for it to get dark so I can fire up this bad boy at night

The Samsung 30Q’s hardly go down at all after a nice walk with this bad boy. I think I was down in the 4.0 volt range when I dropped them in my 8 bay Gyrfalcon. Sweet charger btw

Ok, totally off topic… My kid has this book about animals at night and always wants me to turn the lights off before I read it. Turns out the animals are glow in the dark and the wife tried leaving the book on the table with lights on, etc. No luck

Someone on a different thread mentioned that UV lights “charge” the material so I gave it a go with my 6 watt 365nm. Wow… I zapped each page for less than a second and they glowed so bright I could read the book by the light in a pitch dark room.

Can’t remember a time when my flashlight addition actually came in handy like that

My multiple experiences buying from Neal is also the same. Very quick shipping considering it comes from China. Problem is the majority of people only post when they have negative experiences and keep it to themselves with positive experiences.

How is the color rendering and tint compared with LED lights of similar color temperature?

I’d have to defer to someone more knowledgeable on that…

Here is some video material for the FireFoxes FF5 .....

1. First 5 videos available on the BiliBili video network..... (similar to youtube) ... ignore last one .....

2. Short Beamshot video from FF5 ...... Copy/Paste link into video player (VLC?) or download directly (9,69 MB/ 37 seconds) and turn down the volume !

Thanks to the Baidu FC and the FF manufacturer as well as the BilIBili video network.

Cheers,

Martin

I went for a walk out to the mailbox tonight and it had been raining all day. It was still sprinkling and I fired up the FF5. Wowwww….

It just cut right through the rain. (I have the 4300K). The amount of light that this thing throws out is truly unbelievable. It makes this beautiful wide beam and what almost looks like a tightly focused white beam that is much brighter firing down the middle. It threw out a massive amount of light on some trees that were hundreds of yards away and I could see all the colors of the leaves that are changing.

I’m using four Samsung 30Q’s and they seem to last quite a long time. I found a holster that fit the spare carrier I bought and I have it clipped onto the shoulder strap I’m using on the “drum” container that comes with the FF5. It’s loaded with 4 fresh 30Q’s so I can swap it out if I’m out walking around.

I’ll do some voltage drop tests in the next few days. The really amazing thing was that I was walking around for like 10 or 15 minutes on high and it was every so slightly warm up near the front. My LED lights would be red hot after that long on turbo and they would of course drop in brightness.

So happy with this thing…

10k lumen thrower does sound super impressive. The brightest single emitter LED thrower is the SBT90.2 with only 5k lumens at startup and only 70CRI.

Haha I realized the charge on my cells was low when I took it out last night. Down to 3 volts. Should be even more impressive with fully charged ones tonight

Hey guys,

Just went for a walk for about 15 minutes and kept the FF5 on the whole time. When cars drove by I switched it to low and pointed it straight up. Man the beam is just incredible. Can’t wait to find a wide open spot to really see this thing’s full capabilities.

I left with the cells fully charged and I just popped them in the charger.

  1. 3.77 volts
  2. 3.80 V
  3. 3.84 V
  4. 3.86 V

Based on this I’m glad I have a spare carrier with another set of 30Q cells. If you were out all night it would be good to have the spares

I still can’t decide on whether or not to get this light….

And I want it in a cerakote finish like an arctic camo, but I think guys like vihn only do basic colours.

I thought it steps down from high in like 6mins?

If that is 100watts at bulb, there must be about 15-20% extra for ballast? Looking at the Sony & samsung cells they will be about 2200mah in real world under such a load from memory. irrc that is roughly 15mins on high in total?? Dunno
