Yeah it’s tough trading lumens for tint! If swapping out for the SST20, the SC31B would have it. If swapping for Samsung, it would essentially become the FC11 xD Being picky with tints is a curse, but 4000K looks so good
The XPL HI V2 5D is a great compromise between output and tint - nice mild rosy tint, decent output. Still one of, if not most favorite. Not high CRI though.
Hi Tom, is XPL HI V2 5D better than T6 4C?
More output? What’s the CCT number?
What about the CRI number?
.
.
Currently my favorite is T6 4C (Convoy S2+), it’s mentioned as 4300-4500K.
What flashlight is available with V2 5D?
Dunno what a CCT # is, and dunno the CRI - not sure if it's rated or not, but it's on the low side. Used to get them from Hank, but now I don't see them listed anymore, but still available in some Emisars. MtnE still has some remaining stock.
The way I read Tom's message is as a suggestion to use an emitter that can handle the output of this driver. And produce an arbitrary >1500 lumens. So, an XP-L HI, SST40, LH351D, XHP 50 3V, etc. would befit this light.
I've installed an LH351D, 4000K, in an older SP32A (see my signature box) but I prefer the beam of an SST40.
The S21A has a larger reflector so it's going to throw a little bit more. However, the SC31 Pro keeps up very nicely and performs as an EDC most spectacularly. I carry the Pro in the day (not that I have use for it in daylight) and the tint is the least blue of any I have in its tint range.
The camera doesn't pickup all the flood output that well.
I don't have pics but the 5000K SST-40 looks sooo much better than the CW 6500K's. The 500K is all white, while the 6500K's are noticeably blue, least to me.
It could be from some fried-egginess of the beam from the reflector, but being that the spill is rather faint but blue, most of the yellower light hits the reflector and gets tossed out into the hotspot and/or corona. A hint of green at lower brightnesses, but nicely neutral at higher levels.
If I had to guess, I’d say the hotspot is in the mid-5000Ks.
Hey, I was all prepared to hold my nose when using it, expecting lots of blue, but it’s really quite nice.
