Lumintop GT nano on the way

but please leave this vinh dude out, he is just a crazy modder looking to boost lights beyond normal needs, i dont see how anything he does is relevant really…

Saw the nano on neals sight.

**What’s the deal with the GT3?? I haven’t read about this but it’s on neals aight. Is the throw 85kcd or 1300+ meters? I couldn’t tell based on the descriptions.

It looks like an awesome light and the price looks great, especially if the new product coupon applies. I’ll be buying it… in cool white… dedoming it… putting in a minus grn filter from boaz… and reporting back… :smiley:

^ agreed, RobinDobbie. I think what Vinh does is definitely needed in this community. I think there is relevancy for a genuine guy (an enthusiast himself) pushing the barrier on a torch’s limits for enthusiasts who want wow factor and unique pieces that they aren’t able to build for themselves. Just my 2 cents. I cant afford most of his lights but I definitely check the SL site every week and drool over his latest creations/mods.

Dangit…I want it, but hard to justify this much for such a lil thing…

edit: eh…screw it

I fried the osram white flat in my gt micro a few weeks ago using an unprotected efest battery. 14500 can easily cook this led. I can’t say the same about 10440 since I have no experience with them.

Lumintop tested their samples with 10440 and saw the LEDs go blue
(no idea under which circumstances - and if 1% did not match their goals or 10)
so they skipped that option....

i guess they did not want to have people ranting about damaged lights
we will see why that happened and what needs to be enhanced

the lights have not even arrived and get a lot negativity :(

i am sure the BLF will again show how it needs to be done to go the last mile ;)

It’s surprising to me that they would spec the light around the 10180 while floating the idea of a future 10440 capable version. I get they wanted to max the output of the 10180 version but I think everyone acknowledges the 10180 is pretty much a novelty. Seems to make more sense to me to design around the 10440, and offer a packaged 10180 tube as a smaller form factor with an expectable hit to output. I doubt anyone will realistically complain about the output of a 10180 light, especially being just about the only 10180 thrower available.

Just my two cents. As a 10180 fan I don’t plan to skip this light, but I can’t say I understand the decision making. A BLF edition would be nice, especially if they could be convinced to do a raw aluminum version.

First off Max, appreciate all you do and none of this a reflection on you.
Now then, Well, let’s review;

Lumintop announced this all the way back on 6/19/2019;
Here is that post;

Neal had news this morning:

Lumintop GT nano
with 10180 and 10440 tube

Specs (so far):
Narsil
single LED
single cell

stay tuned !

Now after saying 10440 tube and getting lots of feedback of what real flashlight customers want, they try to jam a 10180 version for more money than the Micro and even the Mini sells for ($40 quite often) to this market of savvy buyers.

So, do you as a customer/user prefer a 10180 battery with 90Mah on a good day or a 14500 with 900Mah?
After 15 months of R&D it would make sense that they could work out the issues or at least send some of our Gurus the samples so they can figure out a way forward.
But they did not do that, Instead they made who knows how many that they will want to sell thru before fixing the issues.

So, yeah, negativity is inevitable because we were excited for this flashlight and we want to support them, but not going to take a half baked attempt.
Hope it gets worked out.

Peace,
Keith

I ordered 2 of these from Neals. This is one cool little light, an excellent companion to my i1R 2 EOS, and GT Micro.

This is probably a limited run, expenses are the same as with a larger light. I think it’s really great that Lumintop is willing to produce these niche lights for those of us who enjoy this hobby.

Anyway, I said I’d buy 2 way back when, and I did it. This will be fun for meteor shower photography (to light up things like the owl who sits on my roof), checking the back 40 for prowlers of the furry kind, taking out the garbage, and whatever else tickles my fancy.

Anyone know where Neal ships from? Is he in China?

Yep, China.

Folomov had this problem with the 18650S. Their solution was to recommend a low discharge cell :partying_face: . The lights sold nontheless.

I hope this can be fixed.

why couldnt they ask for our feedback if we want other battery type or just change LED so that 10440 will work, i dont get it? why release a version not many want buy and later they want make a blf version ? i cant understand their decisions…… the light got alot of interest and it said 10440 tube now that the light is finished etc it says the led would fry using that emitter? eh ok…. :frowning:

No!

With a 10440 this light needs a thermal stepdown, does the nano have one?

I put a CSLNM1.TG in my GT Micro with an efest 14500 and it’s been fine. Have used it quite a bit on turbo.

led dont go blue? weird if a 14500 can run longer but 10440 for lumintop it went blue…

Gt micro has a lot more thermal mass.

exact
blue is due to heat often

had a C8 with AL MCPCB
went blue at 3A

changed to copper and its good now at 6A

ah that would explain it…

If the led is mounted well, even in a small host like the nano it should not turn instantly blue, maybe after a while but that is what thermal protection is about, which is part of Narsil/Anduril.

Maybe Lumintop should re-do their 10440 test. Or just get us a 10440 tube separately.
