Best Throw in a 1xAA (NiMH) Pocket Light with Clip

Lumintop GT Micro? It only uses 14500 though.

Thanks, gents.

The Lumintop GT Micro is a cool looking little torch, but the 14500 and large head are a problem.

The Manker E05 looks like a real contender—-the claimed 134M beam distance on a NiMH is impressive. A drawback is having strobe in the main cycle sequence—-that would be annoying.

Andrew

Manker E05 (Osram NM1 "W1") is probably one of the throwiest AA/14500 flashlight with a straight cylindrical body.

I did a beamshot comparison video with another AA/14500 flashlight (Sofirn SP10B, which uses the XP-G2 LED -- which is also quite throwy, but just not as throwy as the Osram NM1)

left side is Manker E05 (Osram NM1)

right side is Sofirn SP10B (XP-G2)

the beamshots are with the flashlights using 14500 batteries, unfortunately I didn't do beamshot test with AA batteries..

Here is the Manker E05 (Osram NM1, uses AA/14500) compared with the Sofirn SP31v2.0 (XPL-Hi, uses 18650)

lastly the Manker E05 compared with the GT Micro (XPL-Hi): both using 14500 batteries

Those videos are great! Thanks for posting.

Would others agree GT micro throws farthest?

Manker T01?

> without a huge head

using a NiMH cell.

agree!
meets all the stated requirements by OP

I’d like to challenge it. Where are more candelas? In hotspot of Manker E05 or MicroGT? First has smaller led die area, the latter has larger reflector.
I”m really curious.

the OP said he wants AA and NO large head

the light you are suggesting requires 14500, and it has a Large Head

both things the OP said he does not want

why do people ignore the request, and suggest things that are exactly NOT what is being asked for?

thats a bit disrespectful to the OP, and amounts to hijacking, especially when you add more posts to challenge the valid contribution by mascaratum, with an invalid suggestion that ignores the Original Posted Request.

Yep, you’re right in terms of the original question. A humble apologies.
My challenge popped up after watching attached d_t_a movie and is addressed there.
Again, huge apologies for the inconvenience caused.

you are also right, the larger head produces twice as much throw :student:

I have a manker T01. It uses 14500 or ni-mh. jon slider mistakenly said they can’t use AA. They are not available anymore. Throws better than gt nano but not as good as gt micro.

the T01 head is larger than the body.

the Micro GT head is larger than the body, and cannot use AA

and the winner is:

Wanting a 1xAA thrower with a small head and NiMh only is a bit like asking for a tiny small city car, that must seat 5 in comfort with a huge boot (ok, trunk…. )

Yes, indeed, I realize that my requirements aren’t exactly ideal for maximizing throw. Nevertheless, they are my requirements. (And as for the car, my Subaru Impreza hatchback comes pretty close, although the person in the back middle might have a small argument!)

Thanks to all for the comments and suggestions.

not exactly a budget light but an Eagtac d3a ti with the osram led might meet your needs.

Looks interesting but too rich for my blood. I’ve been out of the “flashlight game” for a few years and it seems that during that time Eagletacs have gotten pricey in general.

I have an early Mi7, very compact. Not a perfect light, but the beam is nice. XP-L HI. So it throws quite well:

It will run on 1 x AA, but output is pretty tame, even for 1xAA. On a 14500 however it really rocks.

The Mi7 looks interesting. Is it still available?
