The history is that a few of us had opined for a while that the Fenix E01 was a wonderfully simple, rugged, reasonably efficient light that can run even on mostly dead batteries, whose only flaw was the poor light quality of the emitter. Meanwhile, the Yuji high CRI emitters were being passed around the community regularly for tinkering, with much affection.
slowtechstef and I had a brief conversation about it one day, and from that, he took the initiative to try to get a group buy going for a special edition E01. Fenix ignored us, but then djozz brought the idea up with Barry at Sofirn, and they made it happen.
We discussed a little the possibility of including more features, but decided to focus on keeping it simple, inexpensive, and robust - imitate what made the Fenix E01 great, but fix that emitter.
I have both several C01 and a C01s, and I think both belong on the market. The C01s is a good general purpose EDC type light, with some throw and decent light quality. The C01 is a reliable, cheap light with beautiful light quality in a floody beam that is great for up close use, or for keeping stashed away for emergencies.
I donāt know if Sofirn might ever make a 2700K version of the C01s, but if not, Iāve been told it is not too difficult to mod.
For my part, I plan to mod at least one of the new C01 with a 2300K emitter, and Iāll probably try to do a resistor swap on 1 or 2 of them to create a moonlight version.
Iāve been told that these are not really in stock, that they havenāt been built yet...whatās the truth here? Do they physically exist or not? Since the choice of a red body gets grayed out when choosing the 3400k, I assume that is not offered or available. All other colors offered are available to chose...but are they actually stocked?
I anyone wants this: My first C01 wasnāt correctly potted due to epoxy not cured. Removed the mess and potted it myself. Not difficult, youāll see when you do it. OTOH, as it has been said already, it is robust as it is.
This donāt appear on my cart, but they add 1.09$ shipping cost.
By the way modes bright, only C01R have sub lumen.
I hope finally theyāll do one batch with firefly mode for the others too
with CRI 95 2700k Led or lower CCT.
correct,
So, I signed up for notification, using the link on that page
They are not in stock anywhere, and a lot of people are bothered by that
for some reason, somebody gave us the impression that the lights are available to be purchased. They are not.
Now were all running around shoutingā¦ Take My Money!
ā¦ also see post 3010 above, for a date when the light is expected
I have a couple of the warm and NW models, and just put in an order for the new C01S, and another C01R, but none of them scratch the āIām in Oklahoma and have been without power for a weekā itch.
Aliexpress site says in stock and will take money. What that means, i donāt know. And when i asked if the light is 2 mode the answer returned was āhello not available at the momentā this was either something lost in translation or bad sign or both.
I did successfully pay moneys though!? And of two listings one said 0 sold and the other said 15 sold.
Is this the start of a trickle? If say the 4.99 is a place holder/ baitnswich. The live link is 8.99.
I was going to ask here if this version is confirmed 2 mode. Hopefully itās something better than an e01 fenix (because of 2 modes)ā¦
Iāll just give my own interpretation for the original Sofirn C01 = this is a ālow-lumensā flashlight (only around 6-8 lumens max), I suppose they didnāt do a 2-mode (1 lumen + 6 or 8 lumens since the difference wonāt be big). In some test, applying more power to the 5mm LED will increase power consumption significantly (means shorter runtime), but wonāt get much brightness anyway, since the LED used is not for high brightness anyway.
So the C01ās purpose is a bit different than the C01S/C01R. C01 is designed to be a āsurvival/vampireā light that uses little power, and can use AAA batteries that are considered āspent upā by other flashlights but will still work with the C01, just to produce the little amount of lightā¦
Iām confused, which C01 misses that sealing?? By design the C01 it has a o-ring around the led that sits in a groove in the head. Did they not add that o-ring now?
Iāve had to open a C01 from the initial batch since the epoxy ran out of the head. There was no o-ring for sure. Of course, it could have been missed out of error; checked only one light.
