USB power meter/tester thread - YZXStudio, Power-Z, RDTech and more.

Just wondering what’s the difference between ZY1280 and ZY1280M? I seem to recall reading a reference to a minor update to the ZY1280, but can’t exactly recall if it’s called ZY1280M and if there’s any notable difference. You can try AliExpress or Banggood or other online stores (I’m not familiar with Amazon stuff as I’m located in a different part where ordering from Amazon will be too expensive so I typically don’t browse stuff there).

AVHzy CT-3 appears to be a very recent model (as in released just a few short months ago), it’s mentioned here (I suppose there is also some purchase information in that message thread):

Based from previous research, the previous AVHzy CT-2 is also the same as the Power-Z KT001 or the Kotomi Pro/Premium.

Just did a little Google search, and it looks like the new CT-3 s also available as the Power-Z KT002, as you referred to, and also the YKLab Shizuku YK001 (I was not familiar with this name [I’m also interested in USB meters and often read about them], and also had to do a Google search — it looks like you’ve done a lot of research about these models already…)

Power-Z has several references to the KT-002:

YKLab also appears to have a basic website (looks unfinished, but manual page and firmware downloads page has some content)
https://yk-lab.org:666/index.php/category/product-en/

Regarding the “UT18” meter, this seems to be from HiDance/ATorch (which produces or resells many budget-oriented USB meters, some fairly acceptably good for their price). Casual search (just now) seems to show that it’s also similar to the CT-3.

However, I’d like to point out one thing (I’m not sure if it would apply to the UT18…) — there is a HiDance/ATorch UD18, which appears to be a clone of the QWay (Witrn) Web-U2 USB meter. Judging from my readings, it would seem that the UD18 is an unauthorized clone of the Web-U2, and QWay/Witrn has blocked firmware updating of the UD18 clone (supposedly updating it to the latest QWay/Witrn Web-U2 firmware will brick the UD18 meter).

Now, this makes me wary of the UT18 meter, whether it’s an authorized copy of the CT-3/KT002/YK001 or it’s just a clone… Anyway just mentioning this…

Anyone used USB-C Riden TC66? banggood

It’s the exact same meter as the RD Tech TC66C reviewed by HKJ:

https://lygte-info.dk/review/USBmeter%20RD%20Tech%20USB%20Meter%20TC66C%20UK.html

RD = RuiDeng, which appears to be transliteration of the Chinese company name , but it looks like they modified the brand name slightly to “Riden” so it’s likely easier to pronounce for the English world.

RD Tech (RuiDeng) has an AliExpress store (I’ve bought several of their items before) — it appears they now also changed their store name to “RD Riden Factory Store”

CT3 or YZ1280M? Someone help?

FL001

I think is good but it is not have Lightening port, so I choose WITRN-X-MFI.
I hope it is a good product

Is there any USB cable/cord straightforward resistance meter? Would be awesome if had these kind of connections:

Output:

  • USB-C
  • USB-A

Input:

  • USB-A
  • USB-C
  • Apple Lightning
  • Micro-USB
  • Mini-USB

Nice test

An interesting blog with posts about USB cable and connector resistance:

I think YK-Lab is the actual manufacturer. They call theirs the Shizuku by YK-Lab, and the outer case says Shizuku on it. I just bought the AVHzY CT-3, and if I look inside, the circuit board says Shizuku on it, and you can also see that in a picture of the UT18 on AliExpress. Also, the PC software and firmware are labeled as Shizuku, and AVHzY even has a couple links to yklab.org. I updated the firmware of my CT-3 using the software from yklab.org and it worked with no issues. I also found that in one of the information screens on the device that it lists AVHzY as the customizer, and their name appears in several other places within the software, so I think AVHzY, Power-Z, and ATorch are officially working with YK-Lab to sell customized versions.

Today is arrived WITRN X MFI…
Anyone knows if i can upgrade the Firmware?

Can anyone recommend a good USB -C charge for IPad gen 8 ( not an Apple product )

Would like to use it for Apple devices and Android devices and non brand name devices

Can anyone recommend a good USB - C battery pack that has a USB - C
output ( not a combination input / output )

Thanks

Anyone have any experience with FNRISI testers?

I’ve entered the USB-C realm, and am looking for something suitable.

I’ve been happy with my UM25C, so a TC66 naturally became a candidate, also helped by relative dearth of testers with male C connectors, especially moderately-priced ones. I don’t require the capabilities of those in the $50-70 range, but do want something better than bare bones basic, and can detect protocols.

Came across the FNRISI FNC88, which is comparable to the TC66, but priced more like the TC64.

After seeing a comparison photo in an AX review, I’m also actually kind of disappointed that the TC66 has reverted back to the smaller form factor, and is tiny compared to the UM2x series, with a small display. If that is going to be the case, the cheaper, comparable option looks more attractive.

One review has found both have their share of bugs, but the FNC88 has the advantage handling PD 3.0, which is my priority going forward. Don’t really care about the proprietary protocols. Spending less now and upgrading to something else after the market matures further also seems like a better plan.

At $14 it Seems like a good deal since it has all of the important features to look for in a usb c meter: bidirectional reading, PD switch, manual protocol enabling and multiple groups for offline data logging. I don’t find protocol detection very relevant these days, not like a few years ago. Maybe because I don’t have any device that uses Samsung, huawei or alike brands with high current fast charging. Most of my fast charge devices are now PD.

My AVHzy just died on me after testing two 100W PD powerbank. That one wasn’t designed to handle bidirectional current and I guess that’s why it failed.

Apparently 19 hours from now there will be a winter sale bringing the price down to $12.8, I will be ordering one to try.

Thanks for bringing the FNC88 to my attention, TheIntruder. :THUMBS-UP:

I couldn't resist to ordering one for $ 12.80. I will probably use it in my next reviews of flashlights with USB-C port for testing PD charging and reverse charging ("powerbank mode").

Yeah, it’s cheap enough to take a chance, so I’m going to order one as well.

It has a few issues, but there’s nothing else in that price range that’s comparable, and so does the RD.

USB-C, and its implementation, have had bumps, and is a moving target, but I’m glad to have at least hobbyist-level tools available, for not a lot of dough.

Oh that is a very interesting site, thanks for sharing!!

This is a good addition to HKJ’s tests and reviews. Thanks a lot for letting us know.
