Haikelite HK04 - Bezel Tool?

Hey all -

I have the HK04, love the light! I have not had any of the negative experiences I read about with Haikelite on blf, which pretty much makes the HK04 sst 40 one of my favorite lights. Range and lumens are great, holds turbo for minutes and the look and brown color are just nice.

My question -

Is there a tool (specific or general) that is used / can be used to remove the inset style SS bezel on HK04? I know Haikelite aren’t the only ones to use this style bezel with the “x” amount of “half cone” shaped notches, and I know people are commonly taking these apart (Tom E?) so I figured I would ask. I kond of want to dedome it, also just check out what’s under the hood.

Thanks!

Bump? Anyone have a method for this blasted bezel?

Modders have a method. Have you emailed or messaged a modder?

You could try 3D printing a custom tool?

People do that for SP40 and A2S bezels, which are admittedly smaller but same principle, nonetheless.

Might have to raise the infill a bit.

If you can get it accurate enough, you can mark the proper spots on a piece of wood and drive in some headless nails sticking up just enough. Lay the head onto the wood so the nail-stumps just fit the holes/notches. Press down and twist.

2 would work, but if you could get all 6 or however many there are, it’d be more grip and less chance of slipping.

Thank you all, i am going to try each of these. I do not have capability of 3d printing but have a friend who can. The nail trick i can defintely try, with some finish nails, i got ya. thanks again!

Amazon sells many different versions of camera lens wrench that might work.

Or a peg clamp.

I’m not sure why you say inset bezel. The majority of modders don’t go through all the above steps to open these.

Most people just use something flat and grippy + elbow grease. I personally use the underside of an old mouse pad like opening a jar. Some use a rubber sandal or similar. On similar lights where there is even a slight crenulation you can use carpet or wood if it will bite enough. I dont have this light i’m just giving suggestions based on the pictures I see and similar lights.

I got the bezel out.

I used a pair of calipers set to width of two notches, and marked on a 2x4. I then drove in two trim head nails until about an 1/8” of them was sticking out, placed the nail heads in the notches and turned, bezel twisted right out! Thanks for suggestion light bringer!

. Problem now is that the reflector is set so tight in the head I cannot remove it. I think I literally need to take driver out to get reflector out.,

The reflector might have a screw holding it down that you can access only by removing the driver. This is common for Haikelite flashlights.

Thank you, Good call! I tried “popping” it out of the clearly visible housing inside the head that holds it but with no luck after 10 minutes I reassembled. I figured eventually I would ask someone on here, it was quite annoying.

I’ve never removed a driver from a flashlight but it looks like this will be my first one… I really want to redone this HK04, based on my previous sst40 dedomes, I think the difference will be awesome.

I use these, they work pretty well for most bezels, sometimes even breaks glue seals. I call them my "sticky gloves":

If not, I got a camera lens tool, similar as pictured above. Also if a pair of needle-nose is big enough, the kind with a rounded backside work well. The good thing is the bezel is SS, so not as easy to scratch up like aluminum is.

Driver is glued and reflector has a center screw which must be unscrewed from inside the driver cavity, very much like a Q8. So, trick is to remove the glued driver.

I described what I did here: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/59790/86

I have it running Anduril2 now - works great!

Thanks Tom!
