Please help: New single cell EDC, 1500-ish lumen sustainable output

I’m not sure if what I’m looking for is available, but hopefully you guys can help me in my search.

What I’m looking for:
The light most prefferably has:

- –2000()- 1500 lumens sustainable (1 hour) output

- Max head/body size of about 30mm, length not much of an issue

- Mostly flood, with this output 150+ meters throw is quite usual and that’s enough

- Has to be reliable

- A hot-rod/turbo/party piece is always welcome

- Not a tactical light (don’t like the look and is irritating in my pocket)

  • Lockout for safety

What I allready found

  1. Thrunite T2: Good size and UI, however not really a looker in my book. However it does seem to have good runtime on high.
  2. Klarus G15: easily without the size perimiters. And high (2000 lumen 1,5h) or turbo (4000 lumen 1,2h). Not sure if this is sustainable though?
  3. Sofirn IF25A: Love the size and the fact it has Anduril. However, not sure on the runtimes in higher output and it does look kinda cheap to me
  4. Nitecore E4K: easily without the size perimiters. And Nitecore is a reliable brand. But only has high (1050 lumen 3h) or turbo (4400 lumen 0,5h).

The first 2 might be the best options.

Not within the size perimitters:

  1. Firefliew E07: Like the look and the fact it has Anduril
  2. Astrolux ec03: Good looking light and good output and throw
  3. Lumintop FW21 X9L: Good looking light, great throw and good output. But quite large
  4. Lumintop FW21 Pro: Good looking light, insane output but don’t know about runtime
  5. IMALENT MS03: This thing is just insane….It seem to be however (appart from the size and look) what I’m looking for.
  6. NIGHTWATCH NSX3: Monster output, but does look kinda cheap. Also not very well reviewed on this site

Do you guys have any other recommendations? My main concern is the sustainability of the higher output. What would you pick?

None of those flashlight will be able to sustain 2000 lumens without burning your hand. It’s physically impossible to control the amount of heat from 2000 lumens in such small flashlights.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly! Too bad manufacturers don’t always share the whole truth…. :frowning:

And sure these lights will all step down. However, I’m looking for the one which does the least, but still does provide reliable performance over time.

Eagtac TX3G Pro is able to hold 1800-1900lm for more than an hour.

And that is the older version. Maybe is the MKII version even more efficient…?

That Eagletac might be a contender. It did also widened my field of view towards 26650 lights.

Btw, I editted my requirements a bit, since it seems to be quite impossible to find a light with sustainable 2000(+) lumen output in this size format. Up untill now, the Thrunite T2 seems the best option for me.

I suppose for efficiency, will need a light that uses a single XHP70.2 LED, like the Thrunite T2 and Klarus G15 and the Eagtac mentioned above…

Seems like there’s not many smaller compact sized XHP70.2 flashlights from the more budget-oriented manufacturers like Convoy (M3, M21C can use XHP70.2 but size is not small). Sofirn’s XHP70.2 flashlights are big (SP70, TK70)… maybe we can convince Sofirn to make an SP33-size or EC01-size flashlight that uses a single XHP70.2 and hopefully still have reasonably good runtime?

After testing two dozen flashlights, I agree. To sustain over 1500 lumens that doesn’t step down, you are going to need something with a head the size of a baseball.

Have you considered the ZL SC700d? Close to an hour at 1700lm when it is cool outside Zebralight SC700d – A Short Technical Review (lumens/runtime graphs/temperature/PWM/current draw)

I’ve also been interested in a light like you’re describing.

One I’m currently looking at is the Acebeam H30.

It is 3.5 inches long, uses a single 21700.

It claims
3 lumens for 200 hours /??meters
120 lumens for 23.7 hours /40 meters
380 lumens for 7.5 hours /54 meters
1100 lumens for 2.9 hours /89 meters
2200 lumens for 5.5min + 2.4 hours /118 meters
4000 lumens for 1.5min + 2.5 hours /171 meters

I own a G15 and whilst it does indeed step down fairly quickly at 4000 & 2000 lumen, it also steps back up as it cools.
Despite it having a single emitter with reflector, the large XHP 70.2 makes for a floody output.

Since this is a headlight, it’s not really EDC spec.

I saw this one indeed, but it’s a bit wide (especially the head). Then I would rather go for another that doesn’t fit the size perimiters (but does have a bigger output as “party mode”)

That is exactly what I would be looking for indeed! Let us pray someone will read these product recomandations!

Also very interested in the runtimes on the new Fireflies mule

According to this review:

the output is not as steady - it continues to decrease.

Also, 70 degrees C? No thanks.

The FW21 Pro will sustain +1400lm for more than one hour

“Since this is a headlight, it’s not really EDC spec.”

I’m not sure what you mean exactly by ’EDC spec”

If it doesn’t work for you, thats fair.

But I’m actually looking at it for myself as an EDC light.

One that has the ability to be head mounted when needed.

I prefer an angled light, Its more ergonomic in my experience.

I’m Hoping the fact that the H30’s LED is center of the body is still comfortable though.

Seems like it should be.

Good luck with your search.

Sorry, EDC spec might not be the correct term. Lets say “pocketable”.

Due to the protruding head in the middle it won’t work for me.

Also, since I’ll be using it as a “walking light”, the angled head is not the best solution for me.

As for the FW21, that might be a good solution. Still to big, but I do really like the look.

thanks for keep the first post updated with your findings, its an interesting read.

They do.

Many makers use ANSI FL1 standards.

All will offer reliable performance. Rather than spec chasing. What are you trying to do with the light?

Nowhere near that, not even 500lm !
