Just received my Convoy S21B KW CULPM1.TG. It has some strange, 3 weak oval circles, around the main beam. Is this as it should be?

Simon,

I just received my L21A CULPM1 last night! I wanted to say these things –

1. this was my first order from you, and my first convoy products (also got m21a CSLPM1) and they are fantastic! Build quality, threading, packaging, and looks. all awesome.
2. I received this order in 18 days to Eastern USA! I think that is amazing. No BS, just order and ship. Really appreciate that!
3. Both lights are VERY impressive! They both throw massively! The M21A with CSLPM1 is iconic – 21700 battery, C8 size, Super light and pocketable, and out throws all others close to its size i have. Look forward to having this as a go to light.
4. The L21A is a TOOL, it is solid, and very nice looking and seemingly unbreakable. Easily programmed it to my desired setting (#10). This thing throws easily with my other throwers of $100+. i couldn’t be happier.

An even cloverleaf is a good indication it’s well-centered. Any “irregularity”, eg, 2 short and 2 long, only 3 lobes, etc., generally means it’s a bit off-center.

The smaller the chip, the more critical it is to center it, and the harder it is, too.

It is pretty even with 3 leafed clover, so guess it is well centred. I tested it yesterday and am pretty impressed for this small form factor to be. Will keep it as is. Also considering to buy L21A or the upcoming SBT 90.2.

I have no idea, but it looks like neutral. And it is not because of my camera.

Could someone do comparison how that neutral, almost warm white would look side by side with some real neutral/warm whites? Was that officially like 5700k?

I dropped one of Simon’s CULPM1.TG into an M21C and the tint is quite nice. I measured CCT ~5000K. I like it a lot more than the cold white Osrams.

Nice. Nice. Really nice.

Would that led work with driver that was meant to drive XM-L2 with single cell about 1000 lumens?

Finally, for me this is really great news…or that before I order, I assumed them to be 6500k, I was focus on distance and lumen and the 2*2mm die.

Kinda feel like I’m walking into a movie midway through…

What’s the pull of this and the CSI.NY LEDs? Power? Throw? CRI? Whut?

It’s a 3V LED so it will work, though it won’t drive the LED to it’s max potential. I’m using Simon’s 8A buck driver.

The Osram’s have very small emitting areas so have more throw than other LEDs. The CULPM1.TG is a 4040 package so can be driven to higher currents than the 3030 variants.

Unfortunately I don’t have a spectrometer to measure CRI. It’s ~4900K at the lowest current setting and ~5250K at 8A. I’m getting ~1600 lumens OTF with the M21C host. I got decent focus just dropping it right in with one of the 4040 centering rings. I did have to put a shim under the bezel as the reflector moved around slightly if I shook the light too hard due to the thinner centering ring.

Can’t get any beamshots tonight; it’s pouring rain outside.

Aha, tnx!

So these are the Next Best Thing vs the white/black flats, I imagine.

I haven’t heard a peep, though, about secondary issues like tintshift, fried-egg beams, nasty coronas around the hotspot, etc.

Must be killer behind an aspheric, though. Teenytiny dot of light packed full o’ lumens.

They are the white flats, as Osram naming scheme isn’t easy to remember, nicknames like “white flats” emerged.

Yeah I was thinking to swap that into my SRT7 which now has 3000k 90cri XP-L HI, but its not really whats I’m after with this. I also get weird black spot in the middle of the beam when putting it close enough to wall so maybe my led is just too deep in it?

If you see a dark hole in the center of the beam only when it’s close to a wall, that’s actually a sign of a well-focused emitter. Totally normal for a thrower.

It looks like this:

When moving farther away like second pic is 50 cm away, its almost gone and cant see it anymore after that, but I do get a bit brighter ring around hotspot, but that was reflection from reflectors bottom which I could paint black with marker etc.?

Yeh, I keep saying that, and no one believes me. Flat Stare

Everything that hits the reflector gets tossed forward in parallel rays. Anything that comes out the front of the LED ends up as spill. The “hole” in the reflector where the LED sits, and inner part of the reflector where no light from the LED hits (coverage is never 180° but maybe 160° at best) is also part of that hole.

Imagine the hole being really big, and you don’t have a cup for a reflector, but a curved ring. That’s what’s projected at least until the hotspot diverges enough to fill it in.

Pretty much all my good throwers have at least a slightly darker spot in the middle.
