Hi from NYC

Heyas, Been Lurking for a a bit now just thought I would post a hello post. It's been about a year since I got into budget torches. Here is part of my current line-up

Not pictured are a few Sacredfire NF007's and a TR-803 Q5 that I lost (I loved that lamp)

The HugsbyP2 has Q5, Superfire has Q5 and the UF501b has anR2.

I do have on order a good amout of stuff:

A Few Drivers from KD

A "TRUE" Solarforce L2 body+flat Bezel from itc

A few 501a Bodiies from Manafont

And two R5 dropins, one from Manafont deal here on BLF and one from an Ebay seller.

Sorry for the long post, but i'm looking into the XML now and saw this on KD, anyone have it yet? I love the SKYRAY host.

Aloha and welcome to BLF Noodles! Nice selection you have there.

Welcome!

I do!

pulls over 3A with a full cell. Very floody, a nicer tint, very bright, very hot. Using aluminum foil on the dropin for a tight fit is mandatory. The reflector is orange peel and as such diffuse/smooth the beam considerably. Not a thrower by any means but a almost pocket light cannon.

It's great and has a decent driver. The body can't cope with heat at extended full brigtness sessions. 10-15min sessions are althrough quite ok. The medium can run easily till battery gives up. Would love a SMO reflector instead of an OP though.

Me too

It puts out a LOT of light. Beware of heat, make sure the dropin is a tight fit into the light body.

And welcome to BLF

Welcome to the Club !!

I also have the XML drop-in and it's by far my favorite for the sheer amount of light it produces :-)

Thanks for the welcomes

Would you guys say that we go high drain batteries (IMR cells on )these new emitters (XML). if usining 18650's xfires no prob. for the most part, but to build this in an 16340 I would think high hight drain are a must?

Also I have read that the 501a will accept an 18350 battery?

If you want to go the 16340 route you'll need to use IMR cells, 3A from small cells is bad for them. Runtime on high will be of the order of ten minutes.

I'd give the 501a body a miss and get a Solarforce L2m body instead. Much more mass for heatsinking.

thanks Don,

I will then put some Q5's/r5 in the 501A's, they are for my parents house ( father knows Li in care) We have plenty of foil paper here . I will probably try that XML next month or so the SKYrRAY.

In my EXP the IMR cells are great when they are at peak, but they drop off output quicky, so quick that it is scary

Same as Don suggested, perhaps the KD C8 XM-L might be an option too for not much more.

Hi Noodles, a warm welcome to BLF! Thanks for joining, enjoy your hobby here!

Sorry, I don't know anything about XM-L emitters. I hope to learn as soon as they start putting them in 1xAA lights. ;-)

Welcome to BLF, Noodles! There are some good pictures of the RQ07 with XM-L T6 over at CPF, if you are registered there (I don't think they let non-registered users see their Budget Lights Subforum):
