$800 flashlights stolen!!!

This, sadly.

Sadly, this also...

That's 4 or 5 lights at current prices. About 1.5 yrs. ago he sent me one as a birthday gift when he found out I was into flashlights. I told him thet he just became my favorite nephew. :D

Wow..$800 per unit???

These are $400 each.

I don't understand why someone issued a Surefire light would have to pay to replace a broken one? That's the point of their warranty, and with the military bulk buying from them you'd assume they would send back shipments of broken/damaged lights for repair on a relatively regular basis.

As an officer in the Army I had to do an investigation on lost property (just about every officer does at some point).

The item was a (1) handheld radio. No hi-tech stuff here (no freq hopping, nicad batteries), although it was (to some limited extent?) programmable.

Charger and spare battery were 'missing' also. Total...$1200 (over a decade ago).

@cehoward: Dont you do that again. I thought someone stole your flashlights! Tho I wondered why someone should steal your lights and not your bikes.. ^^

Funny article btw... 2 million total, 800$ flashlights. I wouldnt even have mentioned them.

Maybe they do have some kind of agreement with surefire but that's what my nephew told me. It's probably the Navy's way of trying to save money and cut costs. He's coming here on vacation in June so it will be interesting what he brings us as gifts. I always tell him not to bother but he never listens. I raised him so maybe that's why he buys me nice gifts. Last year he got me a 42" sony lcd tv and blueray player. I guess you could say that I raised him well.

You got me there!! :D I am at work now, and just mounted my two Keygos Ke-5s on my 89 Centurion Ironman Master. And believe you me, I'd be one hot cookie if anybody stole any of that. That goes for the lights and/or the bike. BTW, everything stays close to me. I am in my cube typing this and my bike is about 3 feet away.. Life is dam sweet!! Wink

On the $800 lights, I was just curious because of the high price. I dunno!! Laughing

i'd like to know, too

I purchased the lights I used in the army myself (at least he ones that were not permanently part of a vehicle :) )

Maybe a surefire hellfighter?

Edit: Looked it up they are 5,100 dollars. :o

On the graph. If you remember the good days under Clinton when the economy was booming we had no debt increase. Love him or not, he knew economics better than any president we have ever had. Sadly, I don’t think Obama has the economic chops to match what Clinton did. Even more sadly, we will be at war over oil until it runs out or we find another fuel.

As fun as political discussions are why don't we try to refrain from dragging another thread off topic.

Where's ChicagoX when you need him? :glasses:

It probably was a surefire that cost $300. But, do you guys realize how expensive shipping to our military in the middle east is? From what I remember, it costs $18 to transport a $4 gallon of gas during peace to Iraq. Costs $42 a gallon to send it further in. And can cost around $600 to send it in to a hostile environment...IT'S RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE! Cost several hundred thousand dollars to transport a humvee to iraq also...

So, that may be the reason the flashlight was so expensive

very Pinoy my good sir!

Thank you, thank you, thank you... Wink

I think that is the answer. It really is a $300 flashlight, but it cost $500 to ship it to the country in question. That makes it an $800 light!! Wink

Ganyan talaga tayong mga pinoy.
