welcome to the forums gramophoning. did you get the version that came with batteries?
they have stickers on them for transport you need to remove to use the light.

also for charging, why not a wall wart? this light can take over an Amp of current.

Yes, I got the version with batteries – what do the stickers look like? Are they white and (haha) very hard to remove? If so, that’s the problem!! Trying to peel them now.

they are on the negative side of the battery. don’t know the color. NOT the insulating rings on the +positive side.

Hmm, if the lantern worked before charging, then at least one of the cells must have been making contact. So charging shouldn’t affect that. But if it works again after removing the stickers, then all is well.

Welcome to BLF! Beer

There are white circle stickers on the negative side – the same colour/texture as the insulating rings…

Hmm…. I peeled off the four negative stickers but the charger light is still showing a combination of green and red.

Are you sure I shouldn’t remove the ring stickers on the positive ends?

Remove these stickers:

Don’t remove the white circle from near the pointy/button at the top. That’s an insulation circle.

OK, yes, I’ve removed the negative stickers but will leave on the positive.

No, the light doesn’t turn on when unplugged from the computer. Sad

Is the tube screwed in securely? It won’t turn on if you loosen it slightly. The tube won’t be touching the PCB to complete the circuit.

Try wiping the silver aluminium part of the tube and the part that it touches on the head with a dry cloth.

I’m going to take photos later… But one thing is that the tube doesn’t SEEM to ever get tight – it just turns and turns, which I thought was by design?

i dont have the LT1 yet, but that sounds like the treads are stripped, maybe thats why its not turning on, because it doesnt get tight, it doesnt push for proper contact

I can confirm that the battery tube screws very firmly to the head of the lantern. It does not spin.

The battery tube of my LT1 screws on tightly, too. When yours keeps turning and turning, where is the area which keeps turning? For example, are you holding the very top of the light (the black anodized aluminum head with the hook for hanging) and the battery tube? If the head is turning freely, does that mean the connections to the LED’s are broken?

I am not exactly certain about the construction of this light. But, I am wondering.

It needs to be screwed down until it stops, or it’s physically locked out from working. Good video, TimMc! Thumbs Up I think that’s the problem. If you get it screwed together fully (those threads are quite long btw) and it still won’t light up, I would try charging the cells in a separate charger; if that made it work, I’d conclude that the on board charging was inoperative, and contact Sofirn for replacement.

Faster to test the batteries with a DMM if you have one before charging them in another charger. “gramophoning said…While it worked out of the box, it no longer seems to work since I’ve attempted charging” implies that the insulating rings weren’t a problem since it lit up at one time. Perhaps it’s locked out? Does holding the switch down make it light up dimly?

Um, Firefox claims there are 376 pages in this thread. I got on a list a couple of years ago but haven’t kept up.
Is there an expectation of this lantern being available, do I need to sign up again?
Sorry to ask a TL/dr question; life’s been a bit confusing lately.

Yep, it’s available right now!

Sofirn’s store / AliExpress Amazon

If it’s not super urgent, you could wait and see if a sale/coupon shows up for your vendor of choice.
But the base price is pretty reasonable too (and in line with the initial GB price of $50).
