Less complicated because changing modes by a single click is the easiest thing out there. Combinations like “press+hold+wait+release” are a pain in the you know where. Tail switch allows for a different grip which some people prefer but more importantly - both switches can be right nest to each other, more - two-stage click solves everything.
Being floody doesn’t mean being good all-round, I think SST40 version is more balanced. Also SST is available with much nicer color temperature (5000K) meanwhile Cree is very cool white with some tint shifts. And it shouldn’t be a battery killer like XHP50 (which drops the brightness by over 50% in less than a minute).
Speaking of that - @freeme can you please ask Astrolux what’s the current draw from the battery in the EC01 with SST40 emitter? Thanks.
Apparently Banggood didn’t really ship my light on the Nov 12. Tracking still shows the package has not been turned over to the shipper and Banggood has added a week to my expected delivery date, now showing Jan 8, 2021.
Just busines as usual for Banggood.
And the product page still says “10 to 15 days shipping time to Texas”
I have couple of orders coming in from BG this month. Package tracking is not updated as frequent as past years but that does not mean that your order is not moving.
Does the newest version still ship with the old, original firmware?
At least some (if not all) of the 5700k versions that shipped after the first 6500k, then 5000k versions dried up still used the original firmware, lacking the version check, factory reset, two-level lockout, or more significantly, better (or TK might say, proper) thermal regulation.
For my purposes, I’m happy with the XHP50 version. The SST40 shots don’t compel me to run out and order another.
That’s a bit disappointing, especially when people have found that examples of the EC03 have shipped with both the old, and newer firmware versions, so the opportunity has been taken to be more up-to-date.
Also just received the EC01 with SST40 LEDs, appears to use the same older Anduril firmware (no 2-level brightness in lockout mode; no automatic/manual memory toggle setting; indicates this still use the very old Anduril firmware version).
I also got the new EC03 with 3x SST40 — these use Anduril version 2020-03-18 (version check via 15 clicks from off)
