[Available again! - BLF special edition light] new Sofirn AAA twisty high CRI 5mm LED

I have to ask, does the C01 5mm “Sophia” Led version come with no glass lens?
Mine arrived today and works great, but I was wondering about the lack of a lens and an unpolished Alu “reflector” that you can touch because… no glass!

That’s the way they are conceived.
The C01S has an SST-20 “power”-led and a TIR optic.
The C01 has a 5mm led, sticking out of a “cone”.
Parts of the two heads are not interchangeable.

LOL Yup, that about describes it perfectly!

Around the base of the 5mm led, in a groove, is a o-ring to waterproof the interior of the head.

you`re making me want to take it apart now!

I did actually wonder if it had any sort of IPX rating or at least dust resistance for EDC use.

Maybe Djozz’s son can do another penetration test on the playground again? According to the first test C01 seems to sustain even toughest abuse. :smiling_imp:

yes, and that light was not potted, but he did not test it under water…

maybe this image will help people who did not ever see a Fenix E01:

I seek confirmation that the new unpotted C01, does in fact have the O ring around the LED…

that was the original first release of the C01, that had been potted with a material that did not set up hard, so Unheard repotted his… He found no O ring

If the new batch has no o-ring there I will be rather disappointed, but the C01 will not immediately fail after water has come in:

I wish my observation could be backed up by others who received an early C01. Thus far I have to trust my memory, kept in a 53yo brain. Djozz makes me a little unsure bout that.

We will know when someone receives their order. Mine have not left the sofirn warehouse if I understand the tracking well. :frowning:

we just need confirmation of the O ring in the latest C01, but I have no plans to put mine under water anyway…

fwiw, here is a great listing of the Eight different LED options, based on the original host…
C01 (single mode), C01S (two mode), and C01R (three mode)
(I added the ovals to the quoted image):

My order is showing ‘out for delivery’ today so when it’s in I’ll post on the o ring seal issue….

Yep, my tracking info also shows YANWEN. But it doesn’t look like it’s the dead-slow Yanwen Economic Airmail, since the tracking number format is different.
So hopefully shipping time will be pretty reasonable!

My order just arrived:::

YES: there is an O ring seal around the LED
NO: The driver is not potted.

I measured 65mA draw from a charged eneloop.

Yay!
thank you for confirming

got a photo to share?

Alternative Amber, for those who dont do, or hire out, their own mods:

pic is a link… these use XP-E2 LEDs, like the first run C01R

Jesus, price is very high for a colored flashlight
No sense

lol… a business that buys things from China, for resale in USA, has to triple the price, to make a profit

if you want to save money, mod your own C01R to Amber XP-E2 … the cost of the light, plus the cost of the LED will total about $15

I know, they quintuplicate minimum their effective cost.
Someone will buy them anyway…AM. first

I dont recommend the C01 5mm Red, the beam is funky

wish I had a couple spare Yujis to swap in

I recommend the C01R instead, it has a better beam, and better modes

Thanks for sharing the comparison! Darn, I guess they weren’t able to improve it much beyond the prototype.
