Sofirn SC01 - new model?? (10180)

Thanks abbazaba for this very first report on this light.

Since a 10180 battery weighs almost nothing, the advertised 26g in the description was not a typo. So the walls must be very thick, hence the slightly greater diameter (14.2mm vs 13mm for an Astrolux M01) and almost double the weight.

Looking forward to an Al version too.

abbazaba, can you please comment on the thread machining? My Astrolux M01 is almost unusable because of too much play in the threads, which makes the head very wobbly.

Also, can the battery be accessed (and therefore replaced)? The non-replaceable, and even worse non-accessible battery on the Olight IR2 EOS made me return it, because you can't even measure its voltage to monitor the charge status.

Wonder why olight only 150lm but this claim 330lm. LED alone? or driver?

The threads are about average, and plenty tight IMO. The battery is replaceable.

Oh nice, a replaceable battery! That’s a good advantage over the I1R2. And the size is even comparable!
I guess the head isn’t captive though, so you have to be careful to keep it nearby when you’re charging this thing.

How wide is that loop? Wide enough for a 3mm box chain to go through it comfortably? Or should I put a split ring on there first?

That means there will be two versions to be choosen from.

330 lumens from a 10180 seems high. On a capacity basis compared to high drain cells, that’s like getting 10,000 lumens from an 18650 light (2600 mAh vs. 80 mAh).

I’ll be curious to see what anyone might measure. To be honest, I think 150 lumens would be quite good for a 10180 light.

That’s cute. I’m guessing the runtime on the 10180s are miniscule though right?

Ordered a couple of these Sofirn SC01 to check out…

They come in a nice little blackbox.

Upon receiving them, I tested the flashlight, but there is no light at all.
I then tried to charge the flashlight, but then the green indicator just lights up.

I previously thought the battery is built-in / non-removable, but found that the tailcap is removable.
That’s when I noticed that both SC01 units DO NOT include 10180 batteries.
That makes these flashlights unusable as I do not have a way of purchasing 10180 batteries… :frowning:
Disappointed that the 10180 batteries are NOT included in the SC01, making these flashlights useless…

Darn, that’s quite the disappointing discovery! Did you accidentally choose the option for “no battery” on AliExpress? (I guess it’s the first/default option, so that’d be easy to do accidentally.)
Hopefully Sofirn will make these available on their standalone store, since they do sell batteries for pretty reasonable prices there.

You can find some on ebay, search for “10180 battery DQG”.

For example, around USD5 for two units here.

I recommend you buy two, because these may arrive dead. And do take care of them: no over discharge, they are not protected. I use to charge them when they get under 3.7V.

Both of mine came with Sofirn batteries, but I think I chose the “w/battery” option for a $ more.

The problem is: most foreign stores DO NOT SHIP batteries to my country. I cannot find any 10180 battery local store, and I have not found any foreign store that ship 10180 batteries at economical price to my country.

If they do ship, they probably charge a very high price (like $20 or more) (will likely be more expensive that buying another SC01).

And, I did mention to “include batteries” in my order, since I know I cannot order 10180 batteries elsewhere.

Yes, but did you pay for the batteries or just ask for them to be included?

Maybe you should just stay away from models that use uncommon battery types, faults happen and also batteries wear over time. Stick to models where that battery can be purchased in your country, otherwise it’s always going to be a risk.

Are you 100% certain you chose the “with battery” option?

I've checked the ebay link I gave you in my former post. The Shipping and Payments tab says:

  • Shipping to: Worldwide
  • Excludes: Guadeloupe, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, American Samoa, French Polynesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Greenland, Bolivia, Ecuador, French Guiana, China (i.e. Philippines not excluded)
  • If I choose Philippines in the pop-up menu: Shipping and Handling GBP 0.49.

I'm not advertising for this ebay seller (others offer the same shipping option), just trying to help...

The item description lists “10180 battery (included)”, there is no option to purchase without battery. (I purchased the SC01 from the official Sofirn / Shopee store, which is Sofirn’s online store portal for Southeast Asia customers).

I just got mine. I’m loving the quality. The stainless steel feels substantial. Threads are firm and smooth, and the two light levels are both very useful, with a very nice tint, very easy on the eye, and smooth beam profile.

I got mine on stainless ball chain at the moment. Makes for a perfect necklight.

13 days later mine has arrived too! all packed in a nice little box with spares and battery already loaded. Looks to be around 4000k (which is nice!), I`v never had a modern light in Stainless Steel before so this is a lovely addition to my collection.

That`s 5 different Sofirn lights I`v had so far and 5 lights that I`v really liked! :+1:

For anyone who’s looking for replacement batteries, it looks like Sofirn has a listing up for them:

Unfortunately, the listing seems to have a couple errors, including (probably) the price of $0.00…
