Something close to Quark AA mini or Fenix 1 AA??

Hi all,

Years ago I remember there were sevral lights out that you could get that were basically a knurled tube with a twisty head that ran on a single AA cell. One example is the Quark AA mini

.
.
Another example is the Tank 007

.
.
I am pretty sure Fenix actually made the first one and it was like 130 lumen but I don’t think its the E12 because I don’t think it had a tail switch. The tank 007 also has a tail lock sort of thing on it you have to delete to have a good flashlight.

What are the best rivals/most similar to the Fenix or Quark in 2020??

Hm…I’d say the Lumintop Tool AA 2.0 is a nice budget light that can be used pretty similarly.
If you replace the tailswitch with the magnetic cap (or just leave the tailswitch always on), the head can be manipulated to operate the light as a twisty.

I’ve got 7 such lights in my database. Though the L10 isn’t exactly state of the art for 2020.

vestureofblood, you might be thinking about this older Fenix light

My favorite single AA twisty is the Jetbeam Jet I MK, but I think that one has been discontinued. You use to be able to pick those up on sale for $16. With the Black Friday sales, I picked up some Fenix E12 V2 lights. They can be treated like a twisty just by leaving the reverse click switch on. When I don’t want to have anyone hear the click of the switch at night that is what I do.

Even with the tail cap switch, the E12, V2 is still a little shorter than the Jet I MK. The E12, V2 will not take a 14500 like the Jet I MK will…………but I didn’t get it for that battery anyhow.

I forgot all about that other tail cap for the tool.

That is so helpful. I think I have seen your database a couple of times before and also forgot about that…… The L10 and R15 are both candidates now.

YES! that is exactly the one I was thinking of.

IMO the Jet 1-MK was/is the best AA/14500 twisty produced. They are not discontinued

There are other’s just like the Fenix LD15. Some chinese company made the L10 for Acebeam and other brands or off-brands. But it’s a nice little AA only light

L3 illumination L10 is a twisty 1xAA.
SB flashlights sells them

Coincidentally I dusted off my barely used Quark AA a few days ago and was reminded why I didn’t use it. It gets too hot at decent brightness (14500) and is too dim on everything else.
The design did achieve good compactness though.

This is what I ended up going with. It just came yesterday. Sadly the head was epoxied to the body. So much so that when I tried to force it free the bezel ( also glued ) broke free. To get the brass pill out of the body I had to get it hot. Unfortunately I neglected to take the LED centering ring off and it melted. The light still comes on so I messaged SB yesterday to see if I can get a replacement centering ring, its not like any that I have.

Anybody know if this light has mode memory?

Yes it has mode memory. Also its brightness is okay on a 14500 but kind of dim on Eneloops. And you should like cold white emitters.

The Maratac AA twisty is one of my favs. I’m sure you are familiar with it. Nice thing is that its tiny. Quite a bit smaller than the Lumintop tool AA and it’s still available to purchase new from County Comm.

I had a Maratac AA Ti. While it was a very nice light there was VERY close mode spacing and low mode would only run for a fraction of the rated time.
