Help me find a Deep Red LED Light Bulb

I’ve previously used 25W red incandescent bulbs for winding down at night. My local store stopped carrying them. I tried the LED equivalent and it was terrible. Instead of a soft, deep red; it was more of an orange. It appears to be a cool white LED inside a red plastic dome. I know there are red emitters. There is an interesting discussion of deep red in the flashlight section. So where can I find that in a standard-sized bulb?

It looks like everything I see that shows up when you search on E27 LED bulb is just what you found – a red envelope with white LEDs inside. I do see E12 candelabra base corn bulbs with red color SMD 3014 LEDs. You would need an E27 to E12 adapter (cheap and readily available). The bulb with shipping costs about $5 and the adapter is a dollar including shipping. Output is “predominately” Red: 615-620NM 3W Note that dimmable LED bulbs require LED dimmers, not the standard one used for incandescent bulbs. If you already have it on a dimmer circuit it probably will not work with the existing dimmer.

It is red when lit and clear when unlit so it is a genuine red LED.

I found some inexpensive standard-size LED bulbs that might be deep red. There are 2 different bulbs for sale, not sure how they are different, but it could be that one is dimmable and the other one is not.

I can do 660nm led bulb, but it will be some expensive SunLike15-16D

I purchased both of them, and both are dimmable according to packaging. There are 2 stickers on their boxes, one of those stickers is identical and says this is a dimmable 620nm-660nm bulb. The other sticker appears to be related to their Amazon pages, and hence different.

These bulbs are not the same though. The cheaper one is orange, the more expensive one is pinkish red. Both bulbs have clear glass, the color is coming from the filament.

I compared them to my SST-20 Deep Red D4V2 flashlight. Light from the pinkish red bulb is pleasant, but it is clearly not monochromatic. It is probably phosphor-converted red. There is a hint of blue color on blue-colored objects, but it is barely visible. There doesn’t seem to be much green.

AC-powered LED lights will almost certainly have all LEDs in series and have horrible horrible 120Hz flicker, like LED Christmas lights (or Caddy taillights).

Simpler would be to just get a 25W appliance bulb and stick a red filter-cup atop it to filter the light just like the colored glass envelope. Zero “pwm” and the same broadband red light as before.

Or there’s always those warm red french-fry lights…

“Probably” all red LEDs are going to be the same color…

Because the LED only has one wavelength, due to solid state/quantum physics.

Is that wrong, o great experts?

At least you are not asking for a flashlight to do the job!

There are several common wavelengths: 620nm (orange-red), 660nm (photo red), 730nm (far red). Then there is manufacturer variance, so LEDs are sorted into bins for different efficiency and peak frequency.
