G0OSE's Old Lumens Competition 2020 entry

Well been having some patina fun today, still not done, check out the progress so far Here above
It is still not finished yet but looking pretty sweet so far. :+1: The copper is pulling ot the brass really well, more blue needed though. I think I will end it late tonight and just let it dry somewhere warm. Tomorrow I can lacquer it as it will need sealing.

Nice work G0OSE. I have to agree with djozz’s comment. Love what you are doing and have done.

:open_mouth: Oh my :open_mouth: G0OSE  You have been very busy !
I’m still looking thru your pictures and this is a very well planned build. The tail cap lights are beautiful and the lathe machining came out very nice. Small parts are harder to make, Good Job !! :+1:
The finish is a surprise I was not expecting, but you pulled off a Great Finish. We are looking forward to see it completed

Well, it’s completed……. phew enjoyed that a lot. Here are some bigger photo’s. You can view more here
Don’t forget to click on all the photo’s to see full size (in that link) , and to get max resolution you have to click the ‘load full resolution’ or is will appear blurry.

Nice work there  :+1:

Wow , that came out really nice !

Absolutely beautiful!

Even more blue than I was hoping for. :sunglasses:

Impressive bit of work there :+1:

That copper had a hard time! Very nice

Thank you guys :+1: I really enjoyed the whole thing, but particularly the patina bit.
I have some limited knowledge now of the timings, what substances do what and produce what colours and also shades of those colours. It’s a funny business as whilst things look dark and dismal sometimes inside the ammonia chamber, that isn’t the whole story, even removing it from the chamber was weird as it evaporated vapour like a ghost!
I have a bit of copper pipe in there now for 24 hours, which for 2 weeks has been sat in miracle grow (and didn’t do much other than form a blue crust) but it’s alive now!
Kinda sums the whole process up ‘alive’ , it basically is and you have to really keep an eye on it because it changes quite rapidly and in spurts.
I am going to continue my experimenting, but with different salty solutions, the most obvious of which since I live a mile from the ocean is sea water.
Time also plays a big role, though I love it’s present colours, as it’s what I was aiming for - I must admit the very first ‘good’ patina shot I did looked lovely in a completely different way, the lovely gold and copper mix, part of me wishes I’d pulled it out then. I believe the copper being pulled out is what eventually causes the blue’s, which is altered with different times etc.

It’s brass djozz :stuck_out_tongue:

I have to say “ I did not see that one coming !! “. This is an amazing light you have made G0OSE Shocked Thumbs Up
Your last pic above reminds me of a Rocket taking off. I can tell from your pics that you put a lot of time and thought into it.
I really like your new ideas for the finish, Great Job Thumbs Up I cannot stop looking over your pics. Cool
.

Wow, that finish is something else, nice one G0OSE :+1:

Oh no, it was such a nice finished flashlight.

It matters not  I enjoyed it immensely and that is all that counts :+1:

Sorry to see you leaving, what happened?

I am not going to comment on it any more YuvalS, sorry.
It was a hard decision but one that had to be made, unless something changes consider it not counted.

After some lengthy conversations, I am back in the compo - I apologise for any bad feeling that may have been caused. I am not sorry for my opinion on it though.

I don't follow this competition very closely, but I'm glad to hear that you're back in, G0OSE!

Thank you RC, that’s very kind of you :+1:
