[Available again! - BLF special edition light] new Sofirn AAA twisty high CRI 5mm LED

Buy another one. The bore holes vary quite a bit.

You mean the keyrings? I’m using pliers for the really small ones.

Ah I was actually going to try that. Was also going see how it would look with film on the reflector. Have to wait for the lights to arrive first.

I guess I really did get the short end of the stick here.

Out of four I received from Djozz today, only one that can take the Tesco alkaline.

I also had some trouble taking the Tronic Ni-MH cells (from Lidl) from some of the last C01 and even the C01S I recently bought. I will give them away with alkalines inside, but it is a bummer to have these differences between samples :weary:

Yes, AA/A Lidl cell are larger, but the Ikea (white) fits well and are great cells.
1 year and are still full charge and their capacity is real with good discharge
A pack of 4 cost almost one C01,what a steal!

I mod mine with 221 resistor and it’s been running 16 days straight.

Here are photos next to tritium to get the idea of brightness. It’s enough light to walk to toilet in pitch black.

no sign of alkaline leakage too

Nice colors.

Why does a light with low power like this work fine indoors but not adequate outdoors to see where you walk?

Because indoors it’s the only light, and outdoors there are other lights that may disturb your view.
Chance that you are in “night vision” mode is higher than when you just stepped out of your car.

Or: distances indoors are smaller than outdoors (my front yard is bigger than my bedroom)

As an emergency light it is fine outdoors, it will light your way, but a light with more output and a hotspot works nicer.

distance differences call for lumen differences

indoor distances are shorter than some outdoor distances

something at arms reach,
a plate of food while seated at a table,
does not need a lot of lumens…

no matter indoor or outdoor… the key is the distance you want to illuminate

the door handle to the toilet indoors… the zipper pull on a tent door outdoors… the keyhole on the car door… all these things are within hands reach… so the same lumens suffice… no matter indoor or out… its all about the distance

The C01 is a 7 lumen light. As a rule of thumb thats good for distances of 7 feet or less.

I’ve just received this light thinking that it had more than one mode, my bad for not reading before…

I prefer the C01s.

both is better

I prefer the C01 as a close range light, and the C01S as a longer range light.

The C01 beam can show all the food on the plate at the same time, the C01S can only show part of the meal, due to the narrower beam

the C01S can spot a cat 20 feet up a tree,
otoh
the C01 works better to see the cat on my lap

Sorry if this is a stupid question. Do the sofirn c01 Sophia comes without any glass? The led is exposed to open air?

Yes and no. It’s not a “bare” LED with silicone coating or dome. It’s a 5 mm LED with hard plastic housing, sitting in an aluminum “reflector”.

correct, that is normal, no glass lens needed nor available.

the 5mm LED is manufactured with a waterproof optical dome, and installed with an O ring around the base. No water or dirt can get into the electronics.

if you had ever seen a Fenix E01 (which cost more and was not High CRI), it had the same no glass lens. It is a very durable design.

Enjoy!

Thanks Jon and Sammy! I was surprised that there is no glass lense but I don’t think sofirn will forgot the lense there must be something I’m missing. Lol

This is the first kind of light I have with this design. Very interesting.

Confirmed unpotted colors (for modding) are Desert Tan(Brown), Blue and Orange, correct?
