Hey guys quick question. I just got my astrolux mf05 the other day and the little tiny lens inside the flashlight that goes over the led came off. Also the black plastic part that goes down in the flashlight around the led also came off right away: I tested it out like this tho and the flashlight seems to work better actually. The dot and the beam it throws is tighter and closer to a perfect looking circle. I’m actually very happy with how it affected it but kind of bummed out that it happened literally right away. What is that little lens for, it’s for ir light right or… also will the flashlight be fine to run without both of those things? Also how do I use the url thing to post pictures? One more thing, has anyone else noticed these things and does anyone else have problems with there beam and dot not being a perfect circle. I’m ocd and it’s absolutely vexing lol. Tho with the little lens and the black plastic protector around the LED off the beam and dot is nearly a perfect circle :o: and just seems quite a bit nicer. I was like what the heck why is this Happening then tested it out and was like damn holy shit ok I’ll take it lol. Last question… So I know you can run the flashlight with just four batteries but if you use all eight is there any benefit to that or like will it last longer and turbo motor any of the molds?

So, the window is protective. Removing it manually increases performance somewhat, however the lens protects the LED. Also the removal process could damage the LED if you’re not careful (and the darned things are expensive).
I’m not sure what the black plastic thing you’re referring to is.

Right I thought it increased performance decently and made the beam better. I didn’t take it off as I was unscrewing the top of the flashlight where the lens is it literally flopped off. And that part I’m taking about it right where the led is there is a black protective part around the led. Which slightly raises the reflective part of the flashlight. That black plastic part litterally wasn’t even attached and just fell off. But in doing so that is what actually made the beam look better. It made the reflector move slightly closer to the flashlight case itself cause the plastic part is a cm or so in thickness maybe more. That’s what made the beam a lot better looking. Again I didn’t take it off it just fell off. I contacted the company I got it from hopefully they can help: honestly I like it more like this but at the same time I don’t want it to ruin the flashlight. I’ll post a picture when I figure it out

Some people like to remove that glass lens for a better beam and more output. So it’s no big deal that yours fell off. (It’s strange that it did as I’ve never heard of it falling off on its own) Just remove it so it doesn’t bang around scratching the reflector or damaging the led.

The big black piece is a centering ring. If the reflector pushes down real hard on the mcpcb it could cause a short and damage the light. I would keep it installed.

What does it do spread out the weight across a greater surface area or something. That thing literally decrease the quality of the beam quite drastically and was horribly placed. It wasn’t attached in any way and when I unscrew the lens and try to put it back on the protector basically spinning in place as I tried to tighten the lens back into place and makes it impossible to use it, so as I was tightening the lens cap no matter what position I had the black protector in it would be ruined because as I tighter to lid it rotated that thing which was almost hitting the led and scratching it and wouldn’t be centered at all after tightened. Unless I glue it but I’m scared to use the wrong type or too much and ruin the flashlight. Should I glue it or… I honestly feel like that thing protecting it does a poor job or really nothing at all. What do you think the chances of the shorting out happening without it? O and thanks btw. Is there any benefit to using all 8 batteries instead of 4 at a time?

What. You mean trying it without the protector thing?

8 batteries will double the run time and maybe boost the amperage a little bit. (I believe this uses a FET driver)

The purpose of the black thing is to center the reflector over the led. It may also keep the reflector from touching the 2 electrical wires as well. I don’t have this model so I don’t know how close the wires get.

The mcpcb has electrical traces on top of it covered in a thin insulator. If either of these traces touches the reflector you will get a short circuit. It protects against this as well.

If the reflector pushes through the thin insulator and touches the negative trace it will cause the light to turn on full blast and run continuously until you disconnect the battery or it burns up the LED.

If the reflector touches the positive trace it will cause a direct short to the battery causing the batteries to get very hot and possibly vent/out gas.

Both are very bad scenarios. Since the factory centering ring height is hurting your focus, try to find something similar that you can use that is thinner. Maybe a really thin piece of plastic that you can cut out of a package. Something that is thin and tough.

Ok thank you so much for answering my question lol. Funny thing is is that the protective black plastic actually made the reflector less centered. Now that it has fallen out like I said it is much better center and the beam is quite better. It is basically impossible for the reflector to touch the wires when the top us screwed in all the way the thing doesn’t move at all even without the protector in there. And even without the top screwed in the distance from the reflector and the wires is of no concern to me. The white surface that is exposed after I took out the protector seems to be quite tough and durable. The reflector hasn’t made a scratch on the white surface for i would be able to easily noticed it and I looked for one. At least not get. What was scratched was the protector, it came like that. But thank you for the idea you offered me it sound like a wonderful solution. I am honestly not very worried about any of that happening it just seems like the material are tough enough to withstand but I am a worry wort and will probably search out something to put under it to protect it. But if I can’t find anything I will just leave as is and I’m thinking it will be fine. It seemed the black protector causes more trouble than it prevents but I don’t want neither of those things to happen. Honestly the best focus is with the reflector flush with the flashlight body but something thin should do too much damage and would hopefully in the long run protect it from further damage to itself. Tho like I said I’m not that worried. I’m worried about using just any old thing for that purpose tho. Won’t the temperatures in there get quite hot possibly melting something that isn’t somewhat heat resistant? Should I use glue? Maybe the company will send a replacement but then again I kinda like it like this

Some plastics can handle heat better than others. You would have to try it and see if the heat melts it. Not that big a deal if it melts. You might just need to try a different plastic.

A couple other things you could try would be to make the factory black piece thinner or you could actually remove a little bit of metal from the bottom of the reflector.

I would not use glue.

I’ve used paper before and it was fine. (On L6 xhp70.2 pulling 18A) Maybe a thin piece of cardboard would work.

A couple layers of kapton tape would be ideal, but I doubt you have any laying around. You can buy some on Amazon pretty cheap.

High Temperature Kapton Tape, Professional for Protecting CPU, PCB Circuit Board. Something like that. I will let you guys know when I find a safe alternative. Btw this flashlight is an absolute beast. Honestly I don’t even care it’s massive and a ton, that’s what makes it all the cooler. This flashlight is on another level. So glad I stuck with this one. Unfortunate these things are happening to it but it’s kinda helping also. Maybe it’ll work out for the better in the end.

Can we lock the fan circuit,so as to save the battery charge?

What do you mean? The fan runs on its own battery. Do you mean mod it to stay on or off? As far as I know, you don’t have to turn it on.
