30Q warning note on battery seller........Why?

Is the warning note below for unprotected batteries something recently added on the imr.com website and possibly others? Why would they say "NOT individually"

"NO, UNPROTECTED. This cell is unprotected and intended for use in protected battery packs only and NOT individually or as a standalone product. In order to operate safely it must have additional protection in the form of a PCB (protection circuit board) or BMS (battery management system), which is not included" https://www.imrbatteries.com/samsung-30q-18650-3000mah-15a-battery-button-top/

The warning is there for those who use cells without any internal or external protection circuitry.

Overall, it is not much of an issue for most of us, but the warning is still there for a reason.

Hopefully not too many hurt themselves using Li. Politicians love to author “safety bills” after an incident. The proliferation of Li flashlights to the uninitiated is a little troubling.

You ever see LG’s battery ad?:

Same idea. The manufacturers want to CYA about consumers using bare cells.

I get the idea, but saying stuff like "not to be used individually" seems way to steep considering that I use most of my unprotected cells in single cell flashlights.

I used protected batteries but I don’t use them anymore.

I had a lot of problems while using protected cells but I never had them using unprotected ones…

Companies don’t add those warning just for fun. It’s a CYA label, because some idiot somewhere (on BLF maybe? blew themselves up.

Perhaps they do not mean in single cell devices. They might be saying to avoid using it/them without additional protection or regulation, that is to say relying on “only” the battery for safe operation. “Individually” is a poor choice of words and does lead to confusion.

That’s probably geared towards vapers who end up setting their faces on fire with sub-ohm coils and the like.

…which almost certainly have LVP.
