Non-Flashlight Things You Enjoyed Doing Today

Correct. You have to keep them moving so they don’t burn. My buddy used to use a SS mixing bowl and a heat gun. But you have to keep stirring and stirring….and stirring.

The air popper makes really small batches, but it works very well.
I have contemplated fabricating a perforated drum and burner setup, but I haven’t yet.

Torque converter?

couldn`t you convert and old tumble dryer? just line it with mesh (the sort they used on old speaker grills) and pop rivet that in place.

That would be like a chili roaster a smaller scale; common in New Mexico.

Yet another box without any defined purpose.
(I thought I had posted this earlier today but it is not found here. ??? Probably forgot to click something :person_facepalming: )

Curved cuts done with a very thin bandsaw blade. Reglued after cutting out pieces. To be gifted. It is that time of year.

Heck yeah. Pretty much the same thing. I could buy one, but I’m always like, “nah, I can build that instead”.

Beautiful.

My wife said it looks like bacon!

I would imagine you could, but I’d have to drink way more coffee to necessitate batches that size. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about uping my coffee intake.

I do like the process of making things. I have a few boxes underway right now as well as a kitchen table.

How long? Good question. I don’t really keep track and the process is broken up into many segments. Lots of intervals while waiting for glue to dry and final finishes to dry between coats.

Sell? I have not given any thought to selling and what the pricing would be. Back in the 80’s when we were scrambling to find things to do to make extra cash we did sell assorted homemade things at craft fairs. I hated the marketing/sales portion of that.

fired up one of three new burn barrels.
burnt (melted?) the exterior paint off.
runs as efficiently as a rocket stove.
hardly any smoke and ash.
well, except for the paint.

Installed a new 50 gallon hot water heater today.
You know you have lived in your house for a long time when you are on your 3rd one.
Got 11 years out of last one.

Wasn’t exactly what I would call “Fun” but the satisfaction of doing it myself (with help of a good friend) and not having to pay a plumber is very calming.
I can do most plumbing and some electrical but know when to realize my limits and call in the pros.

My friend told me he was at this son in laws place on Wednesday trying to get his snowblower going and needed pliers, the guy didn’t know what normal pliers were and barked at his wife to “Don’t just stand there, Google it so we know what we are looking for!”
Guy is book smart and all but evidently never had anyone show him the use of tools.
So my buddy was out shopping for a tool set yesterday to give them so they at least have some common well needed items.

Anyway, that’s it from the ranch for now.
Later,
Keith

I’ve been playing with this sandstone grinding wheel I made . Never used a sandstone wheel before, so it’s been interesting seeing how it performs on different tools .

It works really well on large drill bits , but they need a few passes on a finer stone . Things like cold chisels are fine though .

water bath?

Yes, wetstone

Making tasty espresso at home has become a daily ritual, just stocked up on Red Brick beans to get me through the Christmas period.

Other than that, practising my cursive handwriting with a cursive italic nib and learning C.

Corona Time

Worked on this old clamp and vise I got for $15. They are usable again. I always forget to take before pictures but they were really rough.

Took this just now, snow arrived last night just in time for Christmas.

That’s more like it

Yes, still warmer than usual but you can't bet against Winter in Canada. BTW, those wood boxes you make look really nice, I like them!
