They provide a 2-in-1 modem/router.
You can use your own router, if you want, by not using their router, but you have to use their modem.
Our router doesn't work very well with their modem, so we use both their modem/router.

You can use your own, or get the new Viasat WiFi Modem or Gateway with built-in Wi-Fi when you order Viasat Internet service. If you don’t have the Viasat WiFi Modem/Gateway or would prefer to use a different router, any modern router will work with Viasat Internet service.

The router that Viasat provides works fine.
It's the modem that doesn't work, and you have to use their modem.
Sounds like they should make it work if it doesn’t. If service isn’t at the curb, it usually isn’t economically feasible to extend service to your house. Stuck with what you have.
They should, and maybe they will on Wednesday.

Hughes net isn’t any better. My mon and aunt that live up the road have it, just out of reach of the telco’s broadband. They do nothing but complain about the slow and intermittent service.
Will Viasat just send you the modem you need instead of waiting for a service tech? Anytime I have had problems with my ISP, they have just UPS’d me the part and I would install it and call them on the phone for final configuration. Hard to imagine them not doing something about your problem.

You have to make a service appointment, and they have to determine that the modem/router is on its way out before they'll replace it.
They will not send a modem/router in the mail or via UPS, etc.
My only experience with ViaSat is using wifi onboard airplanes… many frustrating flights.
Gogo, which I’m using now as I type this is not perfect, but much better.

Verizon or a t+t or even T-Mobile do some packages in USA
Like I said before, we use a lot of data.
We need a plan that has no data caps.
If you know of a plan without a data cap, I'm all ears.

Sounds good, though Verizon 5G is only in a handful of cities, and is not in Palm Desert.

According to this site, Palm Desert is not a 5G city (yet)
And according to this site, "There are currently no 5g carriers in Palm Desert, CA. Given the city’s size and providers we might expect 5G to become available between 2022 and 2024."
5g is mainly focused on delivering low latency high bandwidth via mm wavelength signals in dense urban environments. Its range is much less and is significantly more impacted by obstructions than 3g and 4g. If you’re in a area already underserved by 4g, I wouldn’t expect to see 5g anytime soon.

UPDATE, from another thread:
Our internet was down for a week straight, but is working great right now. 
A service guy came to our place today and replaced a large metal thing on the satellite dish.
I hope our internet troubles are finally over.

Looks like we'll be with Viasat until something better like 5G or Starlink comes to our location.
I am so glad that the service guy finally came out today.
It was very frustrating.
