USB rechargeable battery in stand alone charger?

Hi All,
I’m struggling to find the answer. Can / should a USB rechargeable battery be charged in a stand alone charger? I suspect not but….
Thanks.

Y not. They have a + and a -. Like any other battery right?.
A good external charger is always better than the built in. IMAO.
Wait for some more replies just in case. Even if I do it all the time.
Cheers.

I’ve never heard of any problems doing this, though the only ones I’ve personally used with an external charger are the Wowtac batteries.

I agree that given the option, using a quality external charger is better since it allows you to set charging rate, monitor progress, and also catch anomalous behaviours (like high internal resistance that results in a lot of energy being converted to waste heat). There’s a possibility that there’s some proprietary battery out there that wouldn’t work with an external charger…but to me that’d be a shortsighted design decision.

Thanks. I’ll give it a try…

I could charge an Acebeam protected (with usb charging) in my charger just fine, but an Olight proprietary 18500 wouldn’t.

Don’t know if it pertains to ALL USB batteries, but it is likely to work.
I’ve tried a couple Li-on that did work, a Li-on/1.5v AA that did, and one that did not. The AA have voltage conversion and charge protection which adds complications.
Straight up 3.7v Li-on should not have that issue.

All the USB rechargeable batteries I’ve seen would probably be fine. The ones I would be really careful with are the proprietary batteries that have both terminals on one end of the battery.
