UPDATE: Hello Frontier Fiber! [Goodbye Viasat satellite internet. Goodbye Starlink internet!]

Can you not get 5g internet router

Verizon or a t+t or even T-Mobile do some packages in USA

Like I said before, we use a lot of data.

We need a plan that has no data caps.

If you know of a plan without a data cap, I'm all ears.

I think 5G plans have no data caps

most the 5g internets are uncapped that ive been seeing

verizon
starry internet

Not available here yet. Maybe by you RC.

Sounds good, though Verizon 5G is only in a handful of cities, and is not in Palm Desert.

Thanks, but Starry isn't in my area yet.

According to this site, Palm Desert is not a 5G city (yet)

https://www.androidauthority.com/5g-cities-us-1105898/

And according to this site, "There are currently no 5g carriers in Palm Desert, CA. Given the city’s size and providers we might expect 5G to become available between 2022 and 2024."

http://www.wirelessoracle.com/city/palm-desert-ca-coverage/

5g is mainly focused on delivering low latency high bandwidth via mm wavelength signals in dense urban environments. Its range is much less and is significantly more impacted by obstructions than 3g and 4g. If you’re in a area already underserved by 4g, I wouldn’t expect to see 5g anytime soon.

UPDATE, from another thread:

Our internet was down for a week straight, but is working great right now.

A service guy came to our place today and replaced a large metal thing on the satellite dish.

I hope our internet troubles are finally over.

...

Looks like we'll be with Viasat until something better like 5G or Starlink comes to our location.

I am so glad that the service guy finally came out today.

It was very frustrating.

I'm reminded of an old episode of Seinfeld about restaurant reservations.

Here's a paraphrased (and butchered) quote:

"Making the appointment is the easy part.

Keeping the appointment is what really matters."

Here's the actual quote from Seinfeld, for reference:

"You see, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them."

Wondered where you went. Yesterday Visable was brought to my attention. It is from Verizon and can be had for as low as $25 per month.

Looks interesting, and I’m wondering what’s the catch.

So if I get 4 people, well, it’s said we all get separate bills and all get unlimited bw, but there’s gotta be something else to it. Otherwise, what’s the point of “sharing” by bringing in multiple people just to get a lower rate?

Like being a co-signer on a loan. It’s a big nothing unless the other person just stops paying, then you’re on the hook for the whole thing.

The person that told me about it went to reddit to get 4 people up and said it works great for him. Someone may drop out but so far always someone to take their place quickly. Speeds can vary depending on where you are.

I got an email yesterday:

"Starlink is now available for order to a limited number of users in your coverage area. Placing your order now will hold your place in line for future service. Orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis."

So, I signed up, and they collected about $100 from me, and I got this email:

"Starlink will begin offering service in your area beginning mid to late 2021. Orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be notified via email prior to shipment, and you will be charged the remainder of your balance once your kit ships."

Sounds great to me!

I’ve done the same thing, RC. I even downloaded the Starlink App and used it to find the best place to set up the dish. Now its just a matter of waiting—sure hope it’s soon.

A Viasat shill/spambot appears in this thread?

I don't think you'll get much love around here.

(Also, a number of your claims are straight-up lies.)

I received an email from Starlink today.

I created a password, and signed into their website.

My family should be getting Starlink internet service in December 2021!
