grins 8th annual old lumens machine made entry

Thanks Zandar. It is getting closer but it looks like there has been very very little progress so there is not much to look at. It will be interesting to see how it works, I have been wondering if a collimated beam could be used because of the diverging secondary. The difference in beam with the led in front compared to behind.

Do you want the primary to be a parabola or hyperbola curve?

It looks like the secondary was drawn with a constant radius, did you want a circular section or ellipse/parabola/hyperbola for that?

I am using a hyperbola for the secondary. These are screen shots from an PDF I found on designing an antenna. I have used this info to plot the geometry and built the light to those dimensions and I pretty much need the light finished to seenif it works them make adjustments, sorry about the 2 resolutions i have chopped the original screen shot.

I will talk to our programmer and see if he can do this.
I’m not sure there is enough info, or better said, I have never programmed that before.
Our software may not generate that profile, I just don’t know yet.
I will try to draw that up on a 2D cad pgm at home first.

CNCman if you could machine prototype mirrors from a ray simulator then the loses from obstructions could be engineered out of the beam. One thing with led recoil is the most intense light is either lost through the centre hole or bounced back on itself. So should a secondary mirror should direct that light to where you want it most?

Nearly got the internals of the light engine done when. There was some very loud bangs and flashes out the front of the house. When I went to look I realised why the lathe had only half it power the old incoming mains was shorting out. It is a rental property but the owner is very casual so I thought I would upgrade the incoming cables and switchboard so I can run 20kw smelting furnace so I can turn all my swarf back into billets.

I’m interested in seeing this if you have any pics or comments

Only ~ 2 weeks left buddy. Hope it’s enough time for you

I think the aliens finally came and beamed him up for disturbing their flight paths. Either that or he’s recovering after a week long amber nectar binge! (or he could just be doing this 24/7 lol)

Grin……. what happened? Hope everything is ok. Whatever happens, please finish this
It is always a bit concerning when regular members disappear for long times, especially at the moment - I hope you are ok. :+1:

Yeah, his “last seen” matches his most recent post in this thread. I hope he is alright.

:frowning:

Out of concern I’ve tried to ask (emailed) his neighbour if he’s seen him about recently, just wanted to check grin is ok really, hope he doesn’t mind :person_facepalming: - but I find it very odd he just upped and disappeared off here as he clearly loves doing this stuff, as we do reading all about it. Will keep you updated if I hear anything.

My apologies for disappearing a few reasons 1 honestly I stuffed up and didnt have enough time to build and tune this light it will happen. The other reason is I have been overwhelmed with stuff/clutter there is not enough room to use my lathe I have to climb over things to get to it. I have been blacksmithing for near 40 years. All off a sudden I have had to move literally tonnes of steel and tools and find somewhere for stuff that to most people is rubbish and scrap. At the same time I have been doing as much overtime at work as I can to buy somewhere to set it all backup. I am just about there and finally have all my tools and equipment(or are they toys?) in one location. Let the games begin!!
These are my babies 5 cwt or 560lb and 300lb

Good to know everything is alright!
Success with all your projects

I'm glad your alright as well. Take all the time you need.

Take care there ‘grin’, Good to hear from you ! :sunglasses:

Just good to know you are doing ok.

Now that’s some Heavy Metal—

Since you’re not dead, I’ll forgive you for making us worry you might be :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice to see you back! :+1:
