ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

Would be a tough one for Victorinox as long as they don’t use their shield or name.

There were “sports knives” around long before the Swiss copied them, namely Boker made them and many other companies in Solingen some 170 years ago.

I also heavily doubt it that they have patents in China. You can report them but nothing will happen.

Brands on seller’s pictures are different, like the butterfly or CR logo, they even edit locking mechanism as locking knive are illegal in China.
What a surprise.

edit: on the buyer’s pics there is the Victorinox shield but if they could do anything?
Send a mail to victorinox.ch as only the owner of the IP can do anything.

Yes logos are erased from the seller’s photos, that’s why they often write to customers “please don’t include photos in your feedback”

All in all, that was just a little sarcastic remark on my part. I tend to think that the “report fraud item” is just a joke for Aliexpress to improve it’s public image.

Oh well, the day I see Opinel counterfeits on it I will try to report ’em

Of course that’s why we all support AliExpress, easiest way to try a Sebenza.

Still ebay is no way better if not worse…

12C27 is a decent budget steel. Mora uses it in their stainless companions. It’s not as good as 14C28N but it’s definitely better than 8Cr13Mov. I’m glad to see Sanrenmu using 12C27 instead of 8Cr13 or 8Cr14 at these prices. Heck, a lot of companies use junk like 5Cr15 or 3Cr13 at these prices so this is a win.

Also note that the blade stock is a svelte 2.5mm. That’ll help in the slicing department. It seems like too many modern EDC folders use unnecessarily thick blade stock. So if you like the design, try it out. Let us know how you like it once you get it.

I didn’t like the edge retention on my SRM 7129, it was as bad as on my Kershaw Chill, SRM 710 (both 8Cr…) or Ontario RAT2 (Aus8).

On the other hand the thin 8Cr13MoV blade of the SRM 9306 holds its edge nicely, same as the 2 Chinese D2 knives that I edc and not only collect

QSP Platypus with 14C28N blade steel

Bestech Fin with 14C28N blade steel

Harnds Big Silkworm with 14C28N blade steel

Artison Cutlery Arroyo with AR-RPM9 blade steel

CJRB Maileah with AR-RPM9 blade steel

Qsp Platypus is a big chunk of goodness. It’s heavy duty and beautiful all at the same time. Great pivot action for such a heavy blade.
Bestech Fin has a great pivot action, one of the best in my collection for sure. Love the blade shape. A fidgeters delight. I am going to order one with a satin blade, that’s how much I love this knife.
Harnds Big Silkworm has a fantastic “Axis” lock. Better than two big branded knives I had in the past. It’s hard to put this beauty down it’s so fun to open and close.
Artison Cutlery Arroyo with proprietary AR-RPM blade steel. Super sharp and has been holding up very well to slicing and dicing. The pivot action detent needs to be dialed in a lot better than what it is. It is easy to fail when opening. The scales are unique looking and made of acrylic.
CJRB Maileah is a tiny lil guy, but it has excellent pivot action regardless if using the thumb studs or front flipper tab. Great little knife. Uses proprietary AR-RPM9 blade stock being part of the Artison Cutlery family.

I can only agree with you, this knife is so smooth and fun to flip.
It’s one of my favorite knives for sure :+1:

Sencut Citius w/Ferrum Forge Stinger (my EDC for the past couple of months):

I posted this in the Amazon deals section but it is a knife so I thought maybe someone here might be interested

Amazon has a Cuda Marlin Spike folder for $9.90 . Was $29.99

The $9.90 is one of the buying options listed on the right

Nice one Sanrenmu!

Wow, nice! Too bad it is riveted. Is that a lockback? Can’t find it on Sanrenmu’s website.

At least here

That PT711-BU is beautiful!

I like that copper color.

Those Partners are nice indeed, the CRKTs and Kershaws of this generation.
Pretty knives with hefty billboarding.
On the clipside it even says on the ricasso …

Hehe, better you look for yourselves

Give me a clean one with only the SRM logo and blade steel on the blade and the product number on the inside of the handle.
And thumb studs plese, like on the 930x series.

P.S. If you like the design, look for the Otter Mercator. This one seems to be a cleverly modernized version.

It’s kind of sad that Kershaw and CRKT have fallen so far behind. They still put out cool designs but assisted actions and overpriced 8Cr13Mov are pretty lame in 2021. Sanrenmu’s 12C27 will cut circles around 8Cr13Mov.

I just used a $20ish Sanrenmu in 12C27 to cut up enough cardboard to completely fill a kitchen-sized trash bag. The edge still looks good. A quick stropping and it’ll be good to go for tomorrow’s EDC.

Nice

Apparently they are slipjoints (although they do resemble the Otter Mercator which has a lockback style lock)

Also imported under the name Atlas by Böker Plus (see it in some EU knife stores ranging from ~19€ single blade, to ~30€ for the scissors version)

In the same price range 3Cr13 is used as handle material at Sanrenmu and as blade steel at Kershaw.

First time that I like a Boker branded SRM more than their own one even though I’d wait for the other color, brass for me.

The Boker Atlas says 12C27 and is only available in a mirror polished all steel version (even the pins).

You hit the nail right on the head here.

It’s like the irony of 14C28N. It was developed at Kershaw’s behest for exclusive use in their knives. It ended up being a fantastic budget steel and the exclusivity eventually ended. Now, Chinese companies are using 14C28N in budget knives priced to compete with Kershaw’s Chinese-made knives in 8Cr13Mov. (Coincidentally, I’m pretty sure Ruike and Real Steel are both manufactured by Sanrenmu.)
