8th Old Lumens Challenge is CLOSED !!!

Thank you, Jason, for running the challenge for all of us who were interested in taking part. Thanks also, to all the other participants. Without eager participants, well, there wouldn’t be a challenge.

I wish I’d had more time to spend on mine. Both the light and build thread are not as good as I planned to make them. But with my new daughter I just haven’t had enough time to do more. So a couple of elements just didn’t get refined or reworked the way they should have.

Thank You Jason aka pinkpanda3310 for taking on the ” Old Lumens Flashlight Modders and Builders Challenge 2020 ”
And to everyone who entered the contest finishing or not, We enjoyed your company and friendship
I hope later this year more members will join in the challenge. What is the worst thing that could happen ? You may just have fun!
I have had fun building a light from scratch by hand. Not sure what to do for the next challenge, but the wheels are turning.

Many thanks, Jason, for running this years contest. It has been great fun. :sunglasses:

Big thanks to the judges for investing their free time for BLF. :+1: Thanks also to the sponsors for the great prizes. Nice to see how every participant gets a great prize. The NlightD T90 will be my first SBT90 flashlight.

I think if I wouldn’t have had the motivation to finish my modified flashlight for the contest it would be sitting around unmodified until next year. :innocent: The prize you get is of course a nice bonus but a great part of the reward is that you made an awesome flashlight that you can’t buy anywhere. :person_with_crown:

For next year, may I suggest that we have the countdown clock again that CRX had last year? It makes it easier to know when the time is finished.

Yes , thankyou Jason , and to those that took their time as judges . This challenge gave me the push to finally attempt to machine a flashlight . I had a lot of fun , and learned quite a bit.

I’ve thanked before, and I’ll thank again, for the organization and the judges too, now!
Also, it was nice to be in the contest again, a place I never thought I’d be in when I joined the forum.

And last, a word to the people entering the contest, it was nice to see what you’ve done and the new creations arising from our small flashaholic world

Hope to see you all in the next one, and others wanting to join, give this a try, it will be fun

The last two years give me a valuable lesson, this year is even more.
Thanks for the judges and participants for this fun and challenging contest.

Looking forward for the next one!

.
I concur :+1:
Truth is, I was completely unaware the end was near that last weekend.
Jason posted this on the 01/01/2021 ” Last weekend to finalize your builds ”
I assumed the finish was the last week of February like last year. :person_facepalming:
If that post was not seen, I would not have finished, we were babysitting the Grandchildren.
.

It is completely my fault that I was not paying attention to the jan5 deadline, but I was saved by my little son who on exactly 5 jan in the morning asked to me when the big red lamp that had been sitting idle on the dinner table for weeks was supposed to be finished? I looked it up, it was today and it wasn’t a work day so I could spare a couple of hours and was able to finish it in time (under the stern eye from the woman in chief).
My son demanded a reward and so it earned him a bag of sweets.

Ergo, the OL-organisation has no obligation whatsoever to baby-sit the contestants, but it would help some of us :person_facepalming:

Congratulations to all contestants and thanks to the judges and organisers !

Apologies for the missing time stamp thingy. I had trouble posting it right at the start. I asked sb for help and i thought i had it sorted but I must've made an edit that deleted it or something...???

Anyway go check out the people's choice poll :-)

I was upgrading the hard drive on my raspberry pi and broke the fstab, so it stopped booting. My pi also basically runs my entire network, so I broke a bunch of stuff. I salvaged part of the network configuration without fixing the pi (so TVs and chromecasts and cellphones would work… everything on the wifi, which is not my PC) and realized I was running out of time to finish the light, so I stopped and added the ground strap and took some pictures. By then I’d been asocial for too long and was gently nudged back to some family activities, and it took a while before I got back to fixing the network. I’ve now added a second Pi which is dedicated to running the network, so when I break the first pi doing fun projects I don’t destroy the home network in the process…

Anyway, special thanks to pinkpanda for hosting this year, and to all our sponsors this year. I hope I can enter next year and give whatever project I come up with all the time it deserves.

I've finally done some updating to the archive thread and a little catch up.

Congratulations to everyone who entered the Challenge this year. I think the next event can be safely be named a contest/competition next time as a number of the participants prefer the format of competing against each other. Congrats to G0OSE for taking out the people's choice award. Hopefully see you all again in a few months

Thanks a ton for all of your work to put the contest on this year!

And I’m glad that we ended up with a fair number of participants. Here’s to having even more join the party next year!

Thank you again PP, you are one in a million mate :+1: and thank you to the judges and voters who voted for me, it’s actually emotional having won such a beautiful and unique prize.
