Looking for 2AA recommendation

great, thanks!

agree on the focusing feature, dropped that idea a while ago. will take a look at the recommendations, much appreciated

Assuming your requirement is still the same (ie contractor, tool belt pocket clip and tail button)

I would go with these 2 based on my experience.

Nitecore MT22A (It’s a 3 year old light with classic XP-G2)
and
Sofirn SF13 (Just because it’s a brighter light for value and I can repair it myself)

Reason why I chose MT22A
-Lightweight plastic body. Yea I know we all love a solid aluminum body but the fluorescent yellow plastic body is super visible in dark roofs and drains perfect in case I accidentally drop it somewhere
-Plastic scratches faster but doesn’t look as ugly as abused anodized aluminum.
-Thin pocket clip fits my belt easily and easy to take out (May be a pro and con because of how loosely fit the clip is)
-Has shit UI NO MEMORY that always STARTS ON HIGH but super useful for me for quick inspection because I didn’t like fumbling around lights that always start on low or some other memory I don’t know when I’m working on wires.

Reason why I chose SF13
-Very cheap n budget! I can buy several in case I lose one
-BRIGHT
-Nice and slim body great for mouth bites
-Lovely LED tint. It’s a neutral white 5700K I think. Not too warm like incans and not too surgical hospital cool white that hurts my eyes.
-NOT A DEEP CARRY POCKET CLIP which makes it easy for me to take the light out even with thick gloves.

Hope it helps. I believe others have better suggestions but here’s my take

Any reason it has to be a 2×AA light? Buy alkaleaks by the case or something?

Sofirn had the SF13, which was pretty nice, but seems discontinued. I still use mine for burning down moribund AAs.

I’ve also got a Quark 2AA-X (my first “real” flashlight) that’s similarly discontinued. Hell, I bought it (well, them, as in 2) years ago for 80bux when already discontinued, as its regular price was even higher(!). Nice. Twist head for instant-turbo, untwist slightly for all the other modes, good tailswitch, pretty rugged. That’s a good worklight.

Also got a LuxPro 2×AA light that was nice and rugged. Rubberised tube for great grip, but horrible UI (H/L/strobe, always starts on H). Runs an XP-G2 acto the spex, but seemed to me to be a G3 because of the hideous beam. Slapped on some diffusion film, and now it’s got a beautiful diffused beam that’s mostly flood.

Wait they really discontinued it? I always thought they’re just out of stock.
Man what a shame. It’s an amazing throwaway light imo.

Dunno for sure (“official”), just seems like everywhere it’s OOS.

i prefer 2AA because lights with a single AA configuration don’t seem to last very long for my purposes.

i know AA is not a great battery but i like using batteries that are readily available. thanks!

Li cells are nice and rechargeable. Way less expensive in the long run, and you don’t have to worry about them crapping the bed inside the light and ruining it.

The S11C is a zoomie that’s not nearly as annoying or crappy as generic zoomies, takes an 18650 for hella good runtime and consistent light output, and has onboard charging, so you can just keep a cable and plug it into a lighter-adapter on the go.

I think the last time I bought the SF13, it was listed in the Clearance section of Sofirn’s site - then it disappeared across the board sometime after.
So I think it’s pretty safe to say it’s discontinued, which is a bit unfortunate since I liked it as a light to mod and lend out.

i get this argument but it doesn’t work for me. thanks

Amazon has the Streamlight Jr. for $18.51 . I have been considering buying one all day .

yes, i saw this one. i might try it, it looks like it’s simple enough. thanks

Zanflare F2 if you can find one is another option. Discontinued but plenty of folks stocked up on them so may be able to find one used if you list WTB.

Another blast from the past would be Xtar WK40, four levels of regular + 3 blinkies, Voltage indicator on side switch and tail switch to boot.
Ahead of it’s time.
It does tailstand as well, I just tried it.

I’ve got some Mini-Mags I’ve had since the mid 80’s. One I found in a puddle where it had spent at least the winter, and it turned on. If I spent $60 for an AA light I’d surely loose it too.

That’s why you gotta keep ’em snugged up tight, so no water gets in.

Would suggest the Zanflare f2 also, but it seems they don’t do very long production runs these days. The ultrafire wf606 was my go to basic light that I could give the kids for dog walking, but that didn’t stay around for long, the Zanflare even less so!

I think a modded 2aa mag will now be on the cards.

I’m wondering why would you spend that amount of money on a 2AA flashlight since you can get a complete pack rechargeable light for that price. With usb port and very long runtime it’s very unlikely to run out of power. Anyway, fenix e20 v2 might be a good option.

As quite a few already mentioned, fenix e20 V2 is a nice option for 2AA. But if you don’t have to have a 2AA, fenix e12 V2 works even better for me. I have both. both are reasonably priced. And you can count on Fenix for quality and efficiency.
Fenix e20 V2 is only about 12cm long, same as a 18650 light. shorter than the common 2AA lights at 15cm.

Plus its super easy to swap emitters if you aren’t happy with the stock low cri version sst-20.
