18350/16340 version Convoy S2+

Buying one of these off AliExpress with an XML2 U2-1A led

https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32221134204.html?spm=a2g0n.orderlist-amp.item.32221134204&aff_trace_key=94da5631b9204f4d93e814264fb40790-1610608271386-05968-UneMJZVf&aff_platform=msite&m_page_id=3423amp-qkk1DGDbITICm0elkNf1cA1611415887952&browser_id=d81eef2d53074841ba2cb76743494d26&is_c=N

They offer driver options, and I was wondering if anyone knew what the approximate lumen output of these different options would end up being using an 18350 battery?

7135*3 output current 1050mA
7135*4 output current 1400mA
7135*6 output current 2100mA
7135*8 output current 2800mA

Am I correct in assuming that the 2800ma output would be close to 1600 lumens similar to other S2+ ? And the 1400ma output would be roughly half of that around 800 lumens?

First question is (always): for what purpose do you need a flashlight?

Pro: a 18350 Convoy S2+ is a nice light to carry around in the pockets of your pants or jack.
It is a nice light to have if you work indoors or under the bonnet of a car. For a short period.
I have a few of them, ideal for illuminating the road between your tent and the showers.

Con: a 18650 battery is 35mm longer and has typical 3.0 –3.5 times the capacity (eg stamina).
Don’t expect a lot of throw, that’s a result of the type of reflector, small, short and orange peel.
The same led - driver combo in a C8+ has a lot more throw. And output.

As for the output, I would like to refer you to the website of Fasttech,
And do keep in mind I seriously think they present way too much lumens (manufacturer ratings)
Their (ballpark) ratings are: 1.400 mA=600lm, 2.100mA=800lm and 2.800mA=1.000lm.
The last one can get quite uncomfortable to hold after just a few minutes.
Unless you put in another led - driver combo (and wear oven mittens) 1.600lm is out of the question.
To put it bluntly: it will melt down it’s own guts

Cree charts show the XML2 U2-1A led puts out 1067 lumens at 90% efficient glass and electronics running 2800 ma. 624 lumens for 1400 ma.

I have several lights, to cover all my "needs" so I can't honestly say I need the 18350 version, I just want it as a small pocket budget edc lol.

Thanks for sharing the Fasttech info, thats exactly what I was looking for ! The 1400ma version around 600lm sounds perfect for my purpose.

Thanks again!

You are welcome. Bonus point: drivers with 6*7135 and 8*7135 are usually soldered into the pill. Smaller ones have a retaining ring. So you can swap those easily without making a mess.

kiriba-ru sells some special rings for those pills, that can be used with drivers and 6 / 8*7135 chips:

:+1:

I’ve got 3 S2+ lights, two with the short tube and one being an XP-L triple with LD-2 6A driver and they’re pretty neat lights.

Got my gal a purple one, since she loves the color purple.

Everyone should have a least one S2+ and if you buy one, you should get the short tube and a generic clip.
