what type of boots do you all wear ?

I’ve had a pair of RedWings for a number of years. I don’t wear them every day, probably a day a week. First work boots I’ve had that are comfortable to wear all day and so I’d buy again although they look to have plenty of life in them…
Composite rather than steel toe protection, so they don’t weigh too much. Waterproof …at least enough for my needs.

In terms of boots I go for national production, brand Camport!

Ah European shoes !! I miss traveling and having the ugliest shoes at the meetings!

These are the best insoles I have found for long days on concrete. Do not waste time and money on the other ones, I already have.

Those are great too, I just like the way the little “bumps” on the ones I posted feel on the bottom of my feet lol.

I have had 2 pairs of Danner Acadia’s in the last 15 years or so. They are pricy, but my second pair is still going strong. I know they’ll make it another 4-5 years

Thanks,

lots interesting boots, I also Have some wolverine logger steel toes for yard work

I wear the Rocky S2V Special Ops boots and love them. Light weight and very comfortable on my Pes Planus feet.

Danner Ft. Lewis boots. Insulated. They are almost 20 years old resoled a few times. The first time I took them in to the Portland store after so serious abuse. When they said how much to repair and I paid right there on the spot. There will always be a pair of Danners around my place with the amazing customer service they have.

When I need something lighter I am on my final pair of Kean hiking boots (also insulated.) They no longer make the ones I like. :frowning:

Wide toe boxes are what mater to me these days.

:+1:

I’m not sure how well known they are outside Australia, but Adam Savage (of Mythbusters fame) swears by his Blunnies.

Another Australian brand  although they seem to be catering to the (much bigger) US market with some of their product names (Bobcat, Nevada).

KEEN Utility Men's Warren WP-M. No longer available, I think, either. Now that I don't get in the field that much, I find the most comfortable boots! And with good tread for even slimy, rock stream beds. Hope they last and may repair when the time comes.

Thanks all for sharing your favorites!

Danners.
I have a pair from 1989 and a couple of newer ones.
I recommend if you fly into Portland Oregon, you to go to the factory store and headquarters adjacent to the airport. You can score a deal there on occasion.

I guess the word is out based upon the responses in this thread.
Just get the stitch down rebuildable sole and you’ll be set. They will rebuild them when you wear them out (-min 4-5 years likely YMMV). They get even better on the second sole.

I’m not fond of glue down soles.

I’ve had Danner boots (Arcadia, I think) but they wore out within 18 months and no-one around could resole them to Mfr spec. Too expensive to just replace.
Hi-Tec Magnums fell apart, and the desert boots I currently have seem as shoddy as the first gen ones.
Quite a few others, mostly army surplus (NOS, if I can), but they just don’t last.

The ones that have lasted me surprisingly well are 2nd gen Austrian army para boots (they’re currently on 6th or 7th gen, I think). Mine are winter-lined, but somehow remained unsweaty all through several summers. There’s very little wear showing, despite also wearing them on the bike which usually kills boots due to all the oil, grease and road crap to which they’re exposed.
I hate the speedlace hooks and the boots squeak on the leather insoles, but after nearly 5 years they have done amazingly well and show no signs of giving out yet. For £30, I am seriously impressed.

Cowboy… when I’m dressed up (but I am from South Texas)

I’ve about gone through a pair of Ariat ($175 pr. “waterproof”) boots after three years of hunting in the field (*which was plenty wet) and they held up ok- but are nowhere waterproof anymore. They are also cold (but I wear 18650 battery heated socks with them now and they work well enough). But the uppers are about gone and I never re-soled (and won’t as they just aren’t worth messing with now). I polished them (learned that at military school) a few times… but the upper didn’t hold polish well.

I am trying to remember the brand my guides in Wyoming suggested a few years back- $300 a pair BUT those guys literally hunted 120 days a year and said they’d own nothing else.

I have the rubber waterproof mud boots (with Thinsulate) which are fine in 12” of ice water- BUT heavy after a day of chasing after ducks/geese.

I’d like to find an insulated, leather upper’ed, waterproof boot that don’t fail after two years like the Ariat’s did. Any ideas???

Red Wings!

Every few months a thin layer of waterproofing spray. Every few weeks (depends on usage) intensive cleaning and Fibertec Shoe Wax. Quick rinse after every use if any dirt is visible.

Danner boots all day every day for over 20yrs now.

yes, more pictures! No idea how all those american and australian brands look like.

Besides scrubbing with saddle soap and brown polish, I haven’t use anything else. Maybe that is the problem! I have some 303 waterproofing I use on my hot tub vinyl and pop-up shade/rain tent. I never thought to use it on boots (leather) so maybe that would be good to try???

I always wanted a set of Irish Setters in the past, but heard they were a hard to break-in boot. The Ariats fit well from the get go, but the uppers really crapped out fast. If I thought I could use something high-tech to revive them, I’d try it. But with cracks in the leather uppers that polish isn’t filling, I’m thinking about starting over after this years hunting is finished (two weeks of Canadian goose to go).

I suspect the waterproofing on many boots (and leather in general) made today is a one shot deal if using silicone at manufacturing. And the lack of “breathability” (sweating feet) in boots is the result. I would prefer to get boots that don’t have silicone added, but need some maintenance. I think I will call my old guide up north and ask him again… and start with a better boot up front this next time.
