Convoy T2 LED options

I recently bought a (new version, 4 mode, no strobe) Convoy T2 from Simon via his AliExpress store. I got the LH351D 5700K version and I’m very pleased with it—-beautiful floody beam, built like a tank, bargain price, and China to Texas in 20 days.

I’m thinking about ordering another one, but only if there’s a version which has a bit more throw. I like cool/neutral, and am wondering if the XPG2 5500K model would be a good choice. Would there be a noticeable difference in throw so as to justify doubling up on my T2s?

I’d appreciate any opinions, especially if you have experience with the T2s.

Thanks,

Andrew

I just got the same T2 but with 219C 5700k and feel the same way you do about it. Someone that knows more than me will chime in, but I doubt you’ll get enough more throw to worry about. Same reflector and 100% on high. Everything in life is a compromise. I’ve got a crazy amount of S2+ type lights. More throw and still be pretty compact.

Ask Simon if he can build you a custom T2 with the Osram 1mm white LED.

SST20 or XPL-HI will be throwier. In cool tints, neither will be high CRI (if that matters to you).

Slicing the LH351D may give you the beam profile you’re after and is what I’d recommend.

That's what i was going to suggest .. slice and dice . the emitters are cheap enough to "go for it "

I’d say that Simon will say “no”! Why? Because of the absence of a 14mm PCB for the 3030 leds.
The head of the T2 has an edge/ring protruding from the shelf, hence no stock 16mm will fit there. So, Simon would need to modify either the pcb or the shelf of the flashlight to make a good fit. So…I’m not sure if that will happen.
Besides this, give the hole of the T2 reflector is smaller than the available 3030 gaskets from Simon’s store, that would be another con.

As for the SST20, since it is a 3535 and the original PCB is for 3535 footprint leds, maybe that can work.

I can tell you that I have a T2 with a XP-L HI emitter and…it is not throwy! My older Sofirn SF14 w/ XP-G2 threw more than this one.
The reflector is orange peel, and not deep, so you will never get too much trow from that, I guess…

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I have no modding skills so it looks like a “throwier” option isn’t in the cards for me. No problem, it’s still a very worthy light.
