Newly listed B50 21700 headtorch on Sofirn store

Saw this has been listed under ‘Barry selected products’ I’m pretty guessing this is similar to the D25 in being a common cloned design, looks identical to the BORUiT B50.

I’m wondering how this would compare to the D25s, I’m assuming this would have a longer runtime with a 21700?

Is there anything similar to this with white and red LED’s at a reasonable price?

Why o why did they put strobe in the sequence?

:weary: it’s probably using the UI from the Boruit version. I don’t think this is a Sofirn light, but something they’ve re branded? This is a nice headlamp, but sheesh, still using an emitter from 2014. No excuse when the sst40 is cheaper and better.

Looks interesting. I would change the 4 smaller leds to Red Green Blue and UV and the larger led to 4 x e21a with a diffuser (If I was competent to do so :person_facepalming: )

I think this one would be great for a customized version - maybe having LH351D for the 4 side LEDs, and an XP-L HI for the middle one? And naturally a much better UI.
I do somewhat wish they would skip selling the stock version though…that UI just seems like a nuisance to put up with.

Some high cri emitters would be nice.

perhaps can convince Sofirn to produce one that uses high-CRI LED light the LH351D instead of XM-L2…
maybe SST20 instead of XP-G2?

That should make it different than the Boruit B50.

(They did change the LED of the Sofirn S11-B (XPL-HD) to LH351D on the Sofirn S11-C (aka S11v2.0) and also adjusted the UI of this low-cost zoomable light — the quality of the Sofirn S11 flashlight stays the same, not exactly high-quality but changing the LED and UI has some improvement). So I suppose that can also be doable for a B50 (v2.0) headlamp…

Sofirn could really make use of some real effort to not only clone a design, but develop it further :person_facepalming:

Poor emitter choices, poor UI, period.

I’m not into heavy headlamps but this host looks interesting….but it would need a quadrupel driver.
And then Andruil would have a significant rework to support 2 independent light groups.

I just received this light from Sofirn.
It is the same as the Boruit B50 I believe.
No modifications from Sofirn as far as I can tell.

I am a sucker for cheap, functional headlights—like the D10 and D25.
However, this is large, bulky, and heavy.

I weighed the light alone (no headband) at:
163g (with 21700 battery)
94 (without battery).

The 4 side leds are not a floody as I had hoped, though they seem a bit warmer than the main LED.
Also the brightness cannot be dimmed—it is fixed between regular brightness (or turbo).

USB-C charging does works from USB A to C cable.

Biggest question: do they actually manufacture it, or they just resell/rebrand it?

Barry could have some influence here. Changing the emitters (I’d see an SST-40 / 5000ºK & SST-20 / 4000ºK) and a ‘simpler’ UI (more in line of Med / High / Low with single click ON / Off).

Been available for at least 6 months as I have one, fantastic head torch, but bad ui - I wish they didn’t have silly strobes on, but hey, for the price it’s brilliant. The led tints aren’t too bad, and they mix when both are on.
Comes with a 21700 so for the price is a no brainer, great to mod I’d assume .
I wish they would hide the strobes, or at least not make it part of the regular UI, really who needs them on hand all the time, if ever, if anyone. I wonder how many actually use them at all.
Maybe make it so you have to hold both buttons for 5 secs, or press 1 button 5 times in a row.
The 2 button arrangement is an oddity / waste of time, funny really, the on button switches it on and changes modes (not off) - the other literally is used to switch it on and off (but you only really need it for off, as the other one switches it on too) basically switches both sets of leds on in high, that’s all - I have no real idea why there is even 2 buttons. A hold could have been used to switch off.
Could be much better UI and use of the 2 buttons - maybe 1 button for each set of leds would have been a better idea.

Just wondering, for those who’ve gotten this B50 headlamp, when at max brightness (the specs indicate “1200” lumens), any idea how bright it really is (eg. the Sofirn D25S with dual-SST40 LED also lists “1200” lumens) — will the B50 really be able to match the less expensive D25S headlamp in terms of total brightness output?

they are not manufacturers

that is 3rd part product which i would not mess with

I have no way of testing, but I seriously doubt it’s anywhere near that.
I like it because there are 2 sets of leds, 1 for close up, 1 for more throw. Now I’m not a headlamp person, and this is used once in a blue moon for doing odd jobs, so for $20 shipped with a battery I thought it was fair enough.
If you want an every day usage headlamp this is NOT it. The UI is nothing short of awful really, but it is usable for what I need.
Now, if it had a decent UI it would be a different story. But tbh it is what it is, and I wouldn’t bother trying to mod it , if it was that much of a bother I’d get a better more expensive one.

Any idea on spec?
What are the brightness levels of the different modes?
What is the main LED beam angle and distance?

Did someone try to modified it? I would love to see pictures of the driver and the main reflector.
