No real life performance is measured yet. It was just mentioned before, like I did above, that it looks like the specifications are under-reported, this light seems to have a 50mm diameter lens, so around 2 Mcd is more to be expected than 1.3 Mcd.
It was mentioned in another forum thread here on BLF in passing about the “Jetbeam RRT M1X LEP” which was the successor to the “Jetbeam M1X WP-RX” and that it severely under performed compared to its predecessor.
Final tweaks ? Does that include in house QC testing to ensure each light performs to manufacture specs ? Either way I’m excited and hope it ships before Chinese New Years ! =D
LEP lights are so new still that I would not now how they behave over time. Maybe a blue laser owner, one crazy one like us flashoholics who does output measurements, has some knowledge about that.
Mine arrived today, its incredible. I have several other throwers, but this is my first LEP and the singular point of light is very cool. Something to be said for not blinding yourself by the spill and being able to keep the overall light level down and still see what you are looking at.
The ring works well, it has audible/tactile clicks when changing modes, and it works magnetically as these usually do (confirmed by placing a refrigerator magnet next to the ring which switched the mode briefly). Low is still pretty bright when close, but its design is for distance, so that’s reasonable.
I notice the beam seems to be narrowest about 6 feet in front of the lens, then it broadens back out again. This leads to a spot with a diameter of about 2 feet at a distance of about 120 ft away. This focusing might be adjustable by tightening/loosening the ring that holds the phosphor in the body to bring it closer/further to the lens. I’ve no plans to do so, this is a good beam angle for my needs, but I’d guess it could technically throw farther if carefully adjusted to be as much of a cylinder as possible rather than narrowing and widening again.
My Astrolux WP2 had just arrived upon initial impressions its a very nicely built light solid construction love the UI probably the best UI for this specific light. As for measurements its still daylight out but initial measurements from my meter is VERY promising but again my measurements are amateur at best.
