Aaaah! Crazy China. This people needs to see the light, they're legally and culturally outdated. They need to awaken, they need to discern between good and evil. Its crazy what they do in many aspects. North Korea too, by the way.
HKJ, have you ever reviewed any of these budget wall charger brands? (even if not exact model, would be good to know if any are sketchy or good brands in general)
- Ugreen - i think this one is generally a good brand and have seen some reviews of other models from them by you that said they were OK/Good (but not great)
Hello HKJ,
really appreciate all the reviews you do on batteries (especially NiMH) and chargers, they’re great and really thorough!
I’d like to propose the IKEA STENKOL charger for review.
From description it appears to have two current sources (8hrs for 4 batteries, 4hrs for 2) and each slot is terminated individually.
Its main termination method seems to be 0dV/dt, with -dV/dt, temperature and timer for backup termination.
Also it claims to terminate on a full charge, so they may have left out trickle charge, which would be good for LSD cells as you know.
Another feature it claims to have is “rejection of defective cells”, which could mean minimum battery voltage or maximum internal resistance.
Especially internal resistance limit would be interesting to test since this would limit how often the laddas they sell can be recharged. This data could be guesstimated from AAcycler’s data.
I think for such a cheap and easy to use charger, it’s fairly interesting even for us who care about our NiMH cells, so it might be worth a review!
resistance testing requires a set of USB probes and is not a part of determining the charge processing. So it will charge cells with high resistance and not not reject them, and it will also not check them for temp directly. which is pretty much a recipe for a fire.
will not do protected 21700 as max is 73mm (need 75 or more) so even some protected 18650 might be tight in it.
positives
the main positive about it seems to be the touchscreen which is the most likely part to fail in use. From the manual it seems like a lot of clicking on the screen to get things going or to check on the various slots since it does not rotate from cell to cell when charging. so like the maha 9000 amount of screen pushing
it does have pc connect but I have that on my skyrc and have bothered to connect up only once.
no idea who the OEM is, if it is EBL or someone else. not from one of the major charger companies (skyrc, xtar, nitecore, vapcell, efest) so i’d be concerned of their learning curve.
So not a charger but something that could make a charger more effective. Here’s an article about an active cable that acts as a PD bridge of some sort and seems to be able to take a PPS capable power brick and find a better protocol match than a dumb cable with a device to be charged when the two are not from the same manufacturer.
