Quick charging/safety query...

Hi all,

I have an Olight Perun Mini with its proprietary cell, plus a couple of spares… but of course I can’t use the light with one cell while charging up a spare, as it needs to be charged in the light.

I know some people stick the little neodimium magnets on and charge them in a regular (good quality) external charger - How safe is that, though?

Are there any other downsides, like improper charging or undercharging?

Olight doesn’t recommend it, but it can be done. They might not work in all chargers so be aware of that.

Would it just not charge, or is it liable to spark and blow my face off?
I have a Nitecore D4

I tried an Olight 18500 in my charger and it didn’t work. Nothing bad happened, it just didn’t charge. Others have had success with olights protected cells though. I don’t think there’s any risk of the batteries going critical, but it is a at your own risk deal.

Are there any particular magnets that would be best to use, in terms of dimensions?
I was thinking 5mm diameter, but would the length make a difference?

This sounds silly, but if you want to carry heavy loads, you need broad shoulders, not long legs.
If you double the length of the magnet, it has twice the original resistance.
If you double the diameter of the magnet, it has a quarter of the original resistance.

Well, 5-6mm is about the widest I could fit inside the plastic collar… But 10mm length would be easier (and safer, as it would not need pliers near the negative) to remove than 5mm.

I suppose I could get one of each and try it out…?
